: Tranny swap gone wrong, need help!!
Serban 01-02-2003, 11:03 PM Ok, I spent the whole day doing this, and when I got everything done, the tranny is a bitch to put in any gear. I have to turn off the car to get it in reverse, then turn it back on to go in reverse.
The only way to shift without grinding a gear is to match the revs. Also when I get on it in any gear, I get a power surge, the headlights dim.
Help me out here, I left my car at a friend's house, and I will be back in the morning to try and fix this.
BTW, I changed my clutch disc as well.
NismoPC 01-02-2003, 11:18 PM - Check to make sure your cable is set properly. If it's is too tight, you might be in gear all the time.
- Might sound dumb, but I always ask this: Did you put the disc in backwards? Hope not, but that could cause some issues your experiencing.
Good luck!
Serban 01-02-2003, 11:47 PM Just to add another note, I am using a JWT PP with ACT disc...do you think that may be an issue.
And Nismo, I did put the disc in the right way, thanks. I hope I can figure this out tomorrow.
xDennis 01-03-2003, 12:05 AM I don't think the disc is in backwards because i put my disk in backwards and it just would not engage at all...i think it should eliminate that problem.
What fluid did you put in? this probally has nothing to do with the engagin problems your running into though.
Also, the power surges, Did you happen to swap the reverse and neutral switch..its possible those switches could have bad ground or connector. Thats he only electrical part on the tranny...hmm..OH! Check to see where the main ground wire from your battery terminal is grounded to. Usually its grounded to the block/chassis but it may be grounded to the tranny..that may cause some issues. As far as the tranny not engaging that sounds like a tranny problem. Where did you get it from? I would call them up and see about a warrenty on it or something, ive done tranny swaps several times, and have never had any problems like that....weird.
And are you sure you hooked your Shifter rod up right? im not sure the exact name of it but its the assembly almost directly under the shifter and behind the rear motor mount...just some ideas.
keep us posted.
xDennis 01-03-2003, 12:08 AM the linkage...thats what its called..:D
Crono1321 01-03-2003, 12:17 AM I'm no mechanic, but when I installed my short shifter, the linkage was too tight, and not greased enough. We loosened it up, it became easier to shift. Hope this helps, though it probably doesn't.

PSSSHHHGOESMYSR20 01-03-2003, 05:23 AM I'd say your clutch cable is too tight, have you tried loosening it to see if that was the problem?
coach 01-03-2003, 08:17 AM Yeah I would say make sure the clutch cable isn't too tight and make sure the shift and control rod from the shifter to tranny aren't too tight. IF they are it will be hard to move.

PSSSHHHGOESMYSR20 01-03-2003, 09:28 AM Im using a JWT Pressure plate and a clutch specialties 6 puck with no difficulties.
xDennis 01-03-2003, 09:09 PM serban??
Serban 01-04-2003, 08:03 AM I'm still here, the tranny took up another day to do. I ended up putting the old one back in with the stock disc, with some internals from the new one...so no more 5th gear popout :)
Thanks for your help everyone, I will end up getting an ACT PP, and put it in with the disc later on.
SE-Rican 01-04-2003, 08:27 AM Cool Serban. I am glad you go that mofo fixed! Highways here you come!! :D
