Well, my stereo system in my car has been working great since I put it in, but all of a sudden, the speakers stopped working. Not just one side, not just front or rear...but all four. The subs still work though, and the head unit still works. It is baffling me because I don't even know where to start looking, since they all stopped working at the exact same time. When I power on the head unit, there is a light pop that comes from the rear, and then nothing. I thought maybe they were shorting out somewhere, but there is no one line that would effect them all...or so I assumed. Any suggestions?

Is your sub hooked up via a preamp RCA while your speakers are wired directly to the head unit ?

If so, I can only think that the head units internal amplifier may be blitzed.

You could pull the head unit out and test the individual speaker outputs with an extra speaker and some wire. If you have additional RCA preamp outputs for the speakers you may want to see if those are functional through the sub. If the other preamps work and the speaker outputs do not, I suppose you could by a 4 channel amp for your 4 speakers or check the head units warranty.

or ... hopefully some wiring near they head unit came loose.

Thanks for the response. There is only one set of pre-outs that work, and they are the ones going to my sub. So, I'll probably test the speaker outputs as you suggested. First, I'll probably just plug in a different head unit and see if it works....thanks for your help.

Well I figured out what the problem was, and it was oh so much worse than I could ever imagine it to be. As I said before, there was a light pop when I turned on the stereo, and I figured out it was coming from the rear left speaker. So I thought I'd start looking there. I take the speaker out and notice that the back of it is covered in dirt, and it's damp...as if water had gotten back there. I look around and there is dampness all over the place behind the speaker, along with dirt. Then i see it... a hole about the size of my fist going through the rear wheel-well. So I patched it up with some sheet metal and bondo...dried everything out, cleaned it all up...and now it works. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, that was weird.
