: Smoothdaddy or anyone with black headlights.
AztekSE-R 01-05-2003, 01:28 PM I am thinking of painting my headlights black inside of them and kind of wondering how much it would affect the light out of the headlights.
What would be the best thing to do them with?
Glossy
Flat
transparent black?
I want to paint the inside chrome part not the glass part.
Any help would be thankful.
im going with a gunmetal/black red classic.
Help me Figgy.
Roll-Mod-L 01-05-2003, 03:04 PM Which lights are you spraying, the originals or the tsuru? I thought about that idea about a month ago but didnt want to try it because I have hids and I didnt want to run the risk of reducing the amount of light that it emits and also if it didnt work out I would have messsed up a pair of perfectly good lenses. Take into consideration that there are basically two types of lenses, projector (like Matt4nissan) and the regular reflector lens (like the tsuru's). The projector's from what I notice has the light bulb encased in its own lens and so spraying the outer housing (the one that supports the bulb and lens) would not be a problem cause it will not affect the dispertion of the light. The reflector lens uses the whole housing to reflect the light beam so thats why painting the inner lens would probably not be a good idea. But as usual I am one to experiment. If I can get an extra set of lights I would have no problem trying it out to see the difference. This is something I would definely try but not on my own lights, they costs too much for that. Maybe if I can get everyone to make some donations to buy just the lenses so I can do some R and D that may be a plan.
SR20steve 01-05-2003, 03:26 PM I have thought about doing this to maybe the B14 crystal clear headlight assembly. I have seen a guy with B14 headlights with the black housing, and I have never seen them being sold so i assume that he did it to his, it looked very similar to the pulsar serie VZ-R lamps. I was thinking just mask off the inside of the chrome so you keep the actual reflective part reflective but just paint the outside.http://www.nissan.co.jp/PULSAR/VZ-R/images/topL.gif
Roll-Mod-L 01-05-2003, 03:38 PM Guys check out the new thread I posted on this suject and let me know what you think. http://www.sr20deforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33144
SeenSense 01-05-2003, 05:56 PM Well I am in the beginning stages of this project. I konw that it will affect lighting quality a little. And you should just use a little spray tint or something of that nature. I am trying to get a black metallic(reflective paint).
SmoothDaddyFig 01-05-2003, 06:09 PM Hey whats up?
THOSE WERE MY VADER LIGHTS!!!!
To be honest, I didnt even see a difference in light output. I painted most of the chrome Semi-Flat Black. But I left a little chrome in the middle. As I sprayed the chrome I let some black overspray in the middle. I didnt attack the middle with paint. Just a light overspray.
I dont have these any more. Since my car accident destroyed my front end, I have gone with Tsuru lights. I sure do miss my Vader Lights.
Here are the pics from the project:

FastRedB14 01-05-2003, 08:31 PM i've been thinking about the same thing. i'll be sure to post if i ever get around to it.
SeenSense 01-05-2003, 09:42 PM I am going todo it to my regular stock 91 Headlights, and see how it comes out. I will keep posted.
AztekSE-R 01-05-2003, 10:25 PM Glad to see im not the only one wanting to do them
i was going to use stock lights.
AztekSE-R 01-05-2003, 11:55 PM hey figgy i love those lights i want that so so bad
i am scared of the light
lol or lack of the light
btw is there a differance between the 91 and 94 grill and headlight sizes?
what all would it take to do a 94 grill and light conversion on a 91?
figgy do you still have th grill of so id like to get it off ya.
I would do tsuru but i hate the grill so so so bad
if i could make it look like a 94 grill id go with them.
SeenSense 01-06-2003, 12:27 AM well you wouldnt really want to change to a 94 grille and headlights, because IMHO the 91-92 headlights are the best only secong to the TSURU. They are glass while the other are plastic, also the are longer then the 93-94. Plus i think that it would work better on the glass ones then the plastic ones. But then again...I am not sure I got the idea from someone with 93-94 headlights, and he painted both the plastic and the silver housing.
