REDSENTRASE-L and I are going to be in installing my ACT clutch very soon. Just thought I would see if anyone had any tips or advice. I will be doing this in our auto craft shop so I will have a lift and tranny stands and everything, so it should make life allot easier, but I know its gonna kick my ass anyways. I want to do this for two reasons, first and most important the money you save, and two to gain the experince.

make sure the flywheel is in good shape and not a bad idea to change the rear main seal but not nessary if its not leaking

I was thinking of getting the flywheel machined while I have it out, anyone else have this done? does it reduce the structural integrity of the flywheel?

well i did the same to my car for the same reasons. i thought it was pretty cool. my uncle has a transmission shop so he and i did it together. we changed the rear main seal and the throw out bearing when we did mine. good luck.

might want to consider new tranny fluid - that's something that can be easily overlooked. also, get a new throwout bearing and clips (you need a pair of the clips). and asides from the rear main seal, people have also replaced the two inner axle seals. that's about as much as i know without actually doing a clutch job myself yet (probably never).

Hey thanks allot, that is very helpfull darren. I see how it says if you have worn your disc down to the rivets then your flywheel will need to be resurfaced. I wonder how bad the clutch would be slipping if it was down to the rivits? Cause my clutch just slips when it gets hot from racing, but under normal driving conditions it grabs pretty good. Well I geuss I should start calling around to see who can machine a flywheel?

also-does anyone in so cal know or reccomend a shop to machine/lighten my flywheel? thanks, steve

Based on what you said, my *guess* is that your flywheel will be fine. However, it's not a bad idea to have it resurfaced. I didn't on mine. However, it only had 76k on it when I did the JWT swap:D

Well, if your clutch has gotten hot, more than likely you will see hotspots on the flywheel when you get the tranny and clutch off. Just make sure you get that step machined back in there when you get your flywheel resurfaced. do a search for "clutch" with my username in the search page, I posted some good clutch install pages along with the one that Darren posted. Get some redline MT-90 fluid or some Motoul 300 gear oil(can be had at the kawasaki dealer IIRC). For MT-90 go to www.myoilshop.com and put in the discount code found on www.se-r.net under the venders section, I think you get 10 or 15% off. Hope this helps.

P.S. Everyting everyone has said is true in this thred, axle seals, t/o bearing and clips, ect.

Cool thanks again, I have everything you mentioned above, except the gear oil, but I figure I would get that right before I do the install. I was thinking redline MT-90 but I havent heard too much about the motul 300, I always hear good things about Motul so what do you think is better?? Does the Motul just cost more or about the same.
