I want to build a turbo car, been building the german cars but I am tired of the expensive tools and limited potential. The SR20DE looks like an ideal platform to build because of the stock forged rods and crank. I'm looking to build a sleeper which could compete with the new turbo neon. I like the 4 door sentra SE''s from 98,99 and 2000 but there isnt much info out there.
How difficult is it to swap in a LSdifferential into these? Is it costly to find the parts?
What I am planning on doing is finding a high milage car, honing the bores and installing the BB pistons, then going with the BB exhaust manifold a mild turbo and a cheap intercooler.
I could also go with a classic SER but would loose some stealth, would this be considerably cheaper? Are the classic SER's a "pull over" you know cops watch for them like mustangs?

It might be cheaper all around if you just purchased a Classic SE-R and installed a JDM SR20DET motor.
Reasons?
1. Classics SE-R's are significantly less exensive than 98-99 Sentra SE's
2. Purchasing a JDM SR20DET should be less expensive than purchasing the parts seperately along with the associated installation costs. Most JDM SR20DET's only require a prevenative crank bearing replacement to be "good as new".
3. The B-13 SE-R is extremely stealthy. No worries about it being a cop magnet.

I own a 98 SE and no one including cops give me a second look. You can get a Nismo LSD that is better then the stock LSD in any classic of 95-97 200sx se-r. My 98 only weighs about 2530lbs so it isnt that heavy either.

No, classics arent cop magnets. I know that 8 of 10 times I am asked about what I drive in performance conversations, I get a "You drive a Sentra? One of those little Nissans?". Great platform there, and they are very affordable...Josh

Buying a used SR20DET seems risky to me? From what I understand they dont usually include the intercooler or pipes? How do you know your getting a good complete engine?

Your best bet is to contact someone that has a great reputation around here for a purchase of a SR20DET. :)

SOme places will also give you a 'limited' warranty on sr20det's too. Check around. My opinion get one from jgycustoms.com or Andreas.

why would you worry about the intercooler piping? theres kits out there to front mount an intercooler (no flames please) but this is the best way to go IN MY OPPINION

If looks dont matter, get an NX2000. If you want something that wont make you cringe everytime you see it, get a classic SE-R. Both have the want for a DET, and both have decent LSD's. BOth have tons of potential

The intercooler piping costs $850 from what I have seen. My friend told me they the way to go is with a 240sx. I am a RWD person just a personal preference but not if it is a headach to install. He said it was an easy swap if you find a complete DET motor from an S13. The problem is S13 DET's from japan are at least 10 years old, he says you have to rebuild. The engines sit and rust inside before they make it across the ocean. Guess I could ask for a compression check before I buy.
