: Torn on who to listen to
sr20ser1997 01-29-2003, 06:10 PM Ok let me first start off by explaining my setup, I have a bb t25 on my de with 370cc injectors (3 bar) and stock maf. Now almost everyone i see on here will say 10-12 psi is max i should run, yet everyone I know with the basic sr swap in there 240's with stock mafs and stock det ecu (3bar) always say they run up to 15psi on their set up with absolutely no problems at all. My friend with the 240 is trying his best to convince me to try it on 14psi and see how nice it is ( I know about the half thrust bearing so no need to comment on how 14psi isnt good for the t25). What should I do? Is everyone trying to be too safe or is 12 psi really the limit? The only diff. I see is the compression ratio of the motors. Any help would be greatly appreciated:confused:
NX$paniard 01-29-2003, 06:36 PM well, it depends how long you want your turbo to last.....think of it that way.....its your choice.. our motors can handle a assload of boost but if your gonna play with fire you need to be ready to get burnt and recover from it......if not if you just wanna fool around and have some fun either because you cant afford to replace parts or repairs or just because you want yor setup to last you a while,....then well you be the judge...its not that the T25 will spontaneously combust above 12psi....but the worse you treat it the worse you can expect.....ya know....you be the judge ......
sr20ser1997 01-29-2003, 06:48 PM im not concerned about the turbo, more my engine than anything. can it hold 14psi with stock maf and 3 bar 370's? all the 240 guys seem to think so and seem to do it yet everyone on here seems to think it cant and shouldnt be done.
Rockwood 01-29-2003, 06:58 PM 14 psi? on pump gas? on 9.5:1?
nope. detonation may not kill it right away, but your ring lands will no longer be your friends if you keep making them put up with it.
CharlieH98 01-29-2003, 07:01 PM On a DE motor, it's not so much hurting the turbo as it is blowing the motor. I have the same set up. I run 8psi, 93 octane, and 13 deg. timing. If I crank the boost too much, I can hear detonation. It sounds like a baby rattle or a spray paint can. You can hear it best when you on the boost and the sound bounces off a median wall on the freeway. If you hear it, cut back on the boost and/or the timing.
Screw your freinds. It's your car, blow it up as you see fit ;)
I'm not sure if my JWT program is for 9.5 compression or if there is such a program. I keep meaning to call them. What I really want is a 4bar 9.5 compression program :D
Cheers,
Charlie :)
Rockwood 01-29-2003, 07:04 PM also, catastrophic turbo failure can be scary. sometimes, according to Rob Cadle, they can shoot the turbine into the exhaust, and the consequent oil leak has caused car fires.
SE-Rican 01-29-2003, 07:06 PM Bro I say keep it the way you have it now. You have a strong car on your hands. Why push it to its limits???
spdracerUT 01-29-2003, 07:40 PM with cams, i was topping out the i370cc injectors around 9 psi. I'm guessing without the cams, maybe 12psi. Don't forget that the 240 DET guys are running lower compression which is probably why they can get away with 14psi. With the higher compression, you have to run a bit richer to be safe and prevent detonation.

ITR_KILLR 01-29-2003, 07:55 PM I've wondered about this too, but so far i have listened to Hotshot, and others and kept it under 12. when i get my techtom, i might venture a little past 12, and see where my inj. and stock maf top out. with tomei 256's IIRC, hotshots inj. topped out @6K, @13psi. am i correct?
sr20ser1997 01-29-2003, 08:08 PM so do we all agree that 12psi is safe for daily driving? I usually run around on 8psi daily but sometime you just gotta hit the hi boost button to hear the turbo really scream. I run 11 psi now with no probs. 1 psi cant make that much difference could it? I just want to be well informed instead of guessing.
ITR_KILLR 01-29-2003, 11:20 PM i think JWT said one time that 11.75psi was the max w/o any chance of running lean w/ 370's and stock maf. so i would guess that 12 should be fine for short periods of time. i have done it before, just not frequently. my low boost is 7.5 and hi is 10.5, soon to be changed to 10 and 18:D
