i have a constant smell of gasoline around my car, i cant really tell where it comes from, i think it gets worse if i run it harder... i cant even open my windows or sunroof cause the smell makes me sick. everybody who rides in the back seat gets a headache from the smell..

if i fill the tank all the way up, it leaks out somwhere, but i cant tell where from...a puddle appears under the gas filler hole, but nowhere on the car has gas on it!!!! i also get HORRIBLE gas mileage17 MPG below half a tank and like 10 MPG above a half tank, so i figure its leaking from somewhere...if anyone knows if this is a common problem or what i should do please help!!!

thanks for any help.

have you checked the filler neck? Sounds obvious, I know, but I had a similar problem and the filler neck was the solution.

I had the same problem a few months ago.

This is not something you want to wait to fix. Find out what it is quickly. Your nose will lead you to the source. Double check all the fuel line fittings while you're at it.

You might check your fuel filter and the associated hoses it's attached to. If you're getting the smell all through your car, the smell might be coming off the firewall area and through the vents.

But, definitely find out asap, it's too dangerous to drive as it is now.

Pull the back seat out, undo the 4 screws that hold down the top cover of the fuel pump. Thats where I found my puddle. The o-ring that seals the pump in was swollen and no longer fit in its appropriate groove. I replaced it, now the smell is gone.

the fuel pump is covered in about a quarter inch of dust but nothins leaking it all seams ship-shape, **** take it in to my stepdads shop tomarrow and put it on the lift to look for leaks, ill also check the fuel filtter, seems to me i remember having a problem with the filter in my 92 ga16de that made a smell.
