Well, it is finally happening. After months of "get ready" and "don't make any plans", my National Guard unit is heading over to the middle east. I guess I'm not supposed to say where though. We'll be gone for a year at least. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who ever answered my questions ( I only got my NX about three months ago), and to say that I found these boards to be extremely helpful. My NX isn't dying though, she is finding a new owner, actually I'm giving her to my girlfriend since I won't be around for her college graduation, her birthday, and christmas, and any of the other holidays normally associated with the year. Plus I don't have time to sell it (they gave us ONE day to take care of our lives). The car has 140,000 miles, runs strong, and has a little rust.
On to the important part of my post. I'll probably come back with at least 30 grand, tax free. I don't want to spend it all in one place, so I am alloting approximately 12 to a car (this is all I'll have to look forward to while I'm hangin' in the desert). I am going to do one of two things. Either get a different NX, paint it, get nice wheels, do some suspension work, and then get an engine swap or turbocharge it. Or the other option is spend about 12 on a slightly newer and/or "nicer" car. (ie, used WRX, used IS300, used older 3000gt). I realize that for a couple of these cars, I may have to allot a little bit more than 12 grand, and I say "nicer" because I love the NX, and am only worried about reliability. Even though I'll have the money, I don't want to do an engine swap only to find out that the newer engine isn't reliable, or that parts won't be available to fix it, or the nissan dealer that I take my car won't know what to do with it, blah blah blah. I guess my question is: just how reliable has everyone found their DET engines to be? Are there known issues, and how do I get it installed since I don't have a "friend" in the auto world like everyone else seems to. Sorry for rambling on and on. But if you guys could give me one last helpful answer, that would be great. Oh yeah, and if you'd like to respond to my post about the strut tower brace as well, that would be dope. Thanks!
