Just curious, since there are 12sec street cars so equipped.
Yes, the plug and play jwt works, but way too much $$$ imo for a "chip", basically... besides, I'd much rather tunability.

Whats msd btm?

I'm running DE ECU + Apex SAFC and Turbo Timer + 370cc + DE MAF.

Love it!!

no point in the Z32 MAF and 370's. the 370's top out at the same power levels as the MAF.

MSD BTM = Boost Timing Master. It lets you retard or advance timing up to +/- 3 degrees per pound of boost.

John

Edit: By the time you've spent the cash for the BTM and SAFC, you have spent the equivalent if not more than the cost of the JWT ECU.

Here come the Flames. All in all it's not "Just" a chip.

hey charlie,
the safc seems to be working for you... thats great, but when you crank up the boost / upgrade your turbo, you'll run into detonation probs.
What are you runnin.... like 10psi on a t25 ?
Retard timing under higher boost is needed - exactly what an MSD btm = Boost Timing Master does (~$170 summit). I've seen lotsa tire smoking 4s use it sucessfully, even low 11sec blown 5.0s. You might remember the turbo toyota paseo in feb97? turbo magazine? Ran mid 12s on stock econobox injectors + adj boost compensating fuel pressure regulator / upgrade pump + msd btm, on a 96k mile motor. I'm not a "mag racer", just using one example you may be aware of. It simply works
I know a guy running the Jacobs version on his turbo 1.8 scort gt with great results... another option. Of course you can just spike your fuel or go water/alky injection to supress detonation too, but these are more bothersome for a street car.

I'm thinking the DE ecu don't have the "boost friendly" timing maps like the DET ecu... the higher compression DE motor narrows the tuning window even more so. I'm only trying to get some feedback on DE ecu with piggyback timing adjustments.
For the s13 sr20det or ca18det ecu, timing maps seem to work fine.
Stock det ecu + safc + 444/550s + z32afm.... and your flying. Low 12s

oops, just read these replys

>>"By the time you've spent the cash for the BTM and SAFC, you have spent the equivalent if not more than the cost of the JWT ECU."
....and still not "tunable". You can find afc + btm cheap, especially since the safcII is out. This simple formula is proven on many other motors. I just wanna apply it to my nissan. Thats all, besides I have a det ecu (I'll use it later)

>>"Here come the Flames.
no need for jwt flames, hope we outgrow that, heheh. jwt loyalist will always remain, I'm not tryin' to convert anyone here, just discussing some ideas on a different approach

>>"All in all it's not "Just" a chip"
We can call it whatever we like, result is the same

>>"no point in the Z32 MAF and 370's. the 370's top out at the same power levels as the MAF.
cool, a good match, but you can kick up the rail pressure.... paseo above is just one example. Fuel pressure is how we "lived" on starions - huge difference!
Heck, running a t25 at a "recommended" boost level, you should be fine, as Charlie has proven - no timing mods needed
I'm more concerned with a *tunable* piggyback setup + DE ecu ~280hp+ .
On my ca18det, z32 afm made a big difference, that's why I mention it.
I feel what you're saying about matching components ***'.

Oh don't trip................before going to larger injectors and more boost i'm gonna wanna look at knock and if I need a timing device I will get one.

and what will you use to do this ?... just curious. I posted on another nissan forum, asking if there was a datalogger for nissans similiar to the pocketlogger we use on DSMs - an extremely valuable tuning tool
interesting

Apex ITC, I would also like to have a MDM or something equivelant.
