: OK! need advise..
moto773 02-05-2003, 07:05 PM my nx 2.0 engine runs great. but once the engine gets up to normal temp, or actually when the idle cuts down when its cold, right when you rev the engine there is a loud sqeel coming from or under the intake. i have already tryed another air valve thing that is right under the intake and is bolted underneath it, between two 3/4 inch hoses. didnt change. sounds like a air valve somewhere but cant pinpoint anything.
any advice is well appreciated!
Glowmunkey 02-05-2003, 08:41 PM Squeal? Like belt squeal? Or more like air rushing, maybe even an exhaust noise?
Please be more specific, if possible... drugs and alcohol have dulled my imagination...
SteveB 02-06-2003, 01:07 PM Get a few feet of hose, and use it as a listening tube while someone revs the engine, should help pinpoint the culprit.
moto773 02-06-2003, 04:24 PM done that, like i said it is coming from or around the intake manifold. and it is like air rushing. not a belt....
cantdoadonut 02-06-2003, 04:33 PM does the car idle rough? do you have a cold air intake?
moto773 02-07-2003, 11:14 PM no, the car runs fine, and i have a stock intake
pimpsfools 02-07-2003, 11:53 PM Hmmmm? weird?
moto773 02-08-2003, 05:56 PM hhmmmm... yea!
any ideas would even be appreciated.
it does it after the idle drops down when first started. doesnt do it until then. (once hot) and so when you revv it, it does it while it revs down back to idle. and if run long enough it almost does it all the time occasionally..
MadManMagee 02-08-2003, 11:58 PM The IM gasket maybe?? Did you recently get the IM removed or reinstalled? maybe all the bolts didnt get tightened:confused:     Thats my best guess:D
MadManMagee 02-09-2003, 12:01 AM Or maybe its an exhaust leak:confused: Once again just a good ol' guess, from someone who thinks he knows a lot about sr20s:D
moto773 02-09-2003, 03:57 PM yea we made sure the intake manifold bolts were all tight... and there is no way it is an exhaust leak... keep em' coming
thanks
cantdoadonut 02-09-2003, 05:22 PM check engine light coming on??
moto773 02-10-2003, 04:16 PM naw man, shows no problems or lights... nothing but that sqeel
moto773 02-12-2003, 06:03 PM well.. how hard is it to remove the intake manifold with the motor in the car. to see if something like the gastket is screwed up of somthing....
cantdoadonut 02-13-2003, 04:28 AM that would be a pain in the ass, and removing it would probably damage the gasket so you wouldnt be able to tell if it was damaged in the first place.
bigtom 02-13-2003, 12:01 PM check the actual idle control valve. if it is adjusted open too far it can sometimes cause an air rushing sound. try adjusting the idle and see if the sound changes pitch.
you can remove the manifold in the car. it is tough, but so are those gaskets. if done with some reasonable care and not wrecklessly the gaskets will be fine.
moto773 02-13-2003, 08:28 PM where is that idle control valve at on the manifold? right on the trottle body?(front top bottomn???)
thanks
SENTRASER 02-16-2003, 08:31 PM Its right by the oil filter...has a plastic screw in it. Also, check the hoses under the intake mainfold, as well as the hoses on the vacume lines. Replace all the vacue lines and see if it helps.

SENTRASER 02-16-2003, 08:44 PM take a look at this post, it has information about the vacume hose re-routing when you take your AIV and EGR off:
