: Motor Mounts
akes200ser 02-08-2003, 04:37 PM aight here is the deal ever snice i got my new clutch when i hit 2 and 3 third there is a god awwful sound from under my hood. I think that i might have broken a motor mount or i am just shifting to quickly. I looked at all the mounts and i don;t think that they are broken. I have looked into ES mounts i was wondering if these would help? what excalty do they do? what purpose do they serve? is the install hard? what kinda tools are required? Thanx yall
SmoothDaddyFig 02-08-2003, 09:06 PM The ES inserts are the best thing in the world. YOU WILL LOVE THEM!!!
Most of the time its hard to know if a mount is cracked or broken till you actually pull it out and look at it.
The inserts basically stop your engine from lunging back and forth as you're driving thru gears or braking. They make your existing mounts more STIFF. The install for the rear mount really sucks ass. :) I did it alone though. I used 2 jacks to help me out.
You will need just basic tools and a hammer and 2X4 wood block to help you drive the insert in. I flat head screwdriver also helps. You can use the screwdriver to help pry the insert in. The BEST place to get them is at www.suspension.com
akes200ser 02-09-2003, 06:44 PM aight man how do u go about install them like what about process is difficult and where are the four mounts and do u have to have an engine hoist to lift the motor and how does that work
willi93ser 02-10-2003, 05:07 PM i changed mine when i swaped my engine, it made it a lot easier.

dont install ES mounts for all four unless you are going full race with your car....
the mounts are as follows....
front dogbone mount (right in front of the header on the crossmember)
firewall mount (on the crossmember near the guess...firewall)

why do you say that??
blairellis 02-10-2003, 08:31 PM im going off of what i was told, and what ive been told is its too much vibration....
also look at suspension.com website...it says the same thing for the side mounts
vladha 02-10-2003, 10:36 PM The torque mounts, dogbone=front of the car on the crossmember and the firewall mount located on the other end of the crossmember, are the mounts that keep your engine from slopping back and forth when you accel/decel. Allows the engine to put more power to the wheels.
The other 2 mounts, passenger and driver side, help swallow engine vibration and cushion the engine during bumps.
And, I think I'm going to pretend I'm Blair on this: By using the Search button, you will find a ton of information about where to buy them, how to install them and what tools you'll need, plus another ton of helpful hints of "to do's" and "not to do's".
Try using "motor mount install, inserts, firewall, dogbone...." or any of the combination of those. The information is all there... placed there by just about everybody who has already done the install.
Then, if you have any questions that haven't been covered, ask.
And, oh by the way, the firewall insert is a major PITA.

nx2k-boosted 02-10-2003, 11:04 PM So, the motor mount inserts you guys are talking about are the ES kit #7.1105 for B13? Right?
nx2k-boosted 02-10-2003, 11:05 PM By the way there is a GB going on right now for these, if anyone is interested.
akes200ser 02-11-2003, 01:57 AM well snice this was my thread let me get this straight unless i am going full race i don't need them well i am doing alot of racing so yea i need them umm they work really well and the bac one is a pain and i know how much they cost and how much they help i srtill don;t knwo of how to go about the install
NismoPC 02-11-2003, 07:35 AM  Please try to use complete sentences, puntuation and periods. Your thread is a bunch of garbled shit!
Anyhow...
...You'll need to use the same procedure for the ES mount inserts as you would to install new motor mounts. You'll need to take the OEM mounts out and put the ES inserts into them. So, go buy a FSM or a Haynes and it will assist with the install of motor mounts.
vladha 02-11-2003, 08:25 AM akes200ser, have you even bothered to do a search yet? It doesn't sound like you have because all the information you will need is there to be found... including how to install the mounts.
If you're not going to make that little bit of effort to help yourself, I pity you when it's time for the install.
I know I'm being an ass but this subject has been covered extensively and it will really make your job easier.
If you're car is going to strickly be a track hound, by all means, use inserts or solid mounts for all 4. But, if it will continue to be your daily driver and you only do a few or 10 track events a year, stick with the 2 torque inserts and just buy 0EM replacement mounts for the passenger and driver side mounts.

My thoughts, exactly. Here's a few links for ya, guy.

Those are just a few of the many results I got when I searched.
akes200ser 02-11-2003, 11:20 AM I did search, i typed motor mount install and got three threads back that didn;t help much at all but i do thank you for helping me out and i will be fine with the install trust me.
scmser 02-11-2003, 12:06 PM Either have access to a lift and a vice or don't attempt it. I know someone will say they did it without a lift but trust me, you'll want a lift, a vice, and WD40. Work smarter not harder. Get a couple pieces of wood, that helps with pressing in the new inserts. Basically buy the kit, if you don't think your capable of doing it, pay someone to. All four mounts will give you harsh vibration. I have the Nismo solid mounts (all four) in one of my se-r's, it vibrates everything. I have the ES two mount kit in my daily driver, very civilian. Not too much vibration.
Good luck.
akes200ser 02-11-2003, 12:18 PM so buy the mounts that are in front of the motor and behide the motor but not the ones on the pass driver sides or is it the other way around
vladha 02-11-2003, 05:25 PM Buy the torque inserts for your torque mounts... which are located on your crossmember. The dogbone mount is in the front... easy install. The firewall mount is in the back... huge pita.
If you only found 3 threads, you're doing something wrong.
It really sounds like you might need some help with this. Don't be afraid to ask for help from members who live in your area. The last thing you want to do is get frustrated and eff it up.

Mark
P.S. That's funny, I just did a search using "motor AND mount"... there were 52 threads that popped up. Sometimes the information you want doesn't just pop up or fall in your lap... you may have to weed through some things that don't apply to your situation. But, if you do, you'll not only find the information you need, but also some information that you don't know and could use later.
