i finally took the plunge and purchased an amp and 2 subs for my egg.
question though, if the amp is directly connected to the battery, how is it possible for an aftermarket stereo system to cause damage to the alternator?

Also how do haveing good grounds help? Do the good grounds have to be on every ground on the car or just the grounds for the head unit, and amp?

Also does having a better battery help protect the alt? say like an optima?

my guess would be that when you put a system in, your requiring me amperage to be pulled from the alternator, ive seen alot of people with systems upgrade alternators to avoid having dead batteries all the time and stuff, of course i dont know a thing about systems, or batteries or alternators, so im probably wrong

good batteries and a good ground are a must for a system.

well, just about last week a friend with a nissan terrano suffer from a altenator lost (alternator went to hell), so a elec-mech down here told him was because the sound equipment, and he must do one of two things:

1. get a bigger alternator
2. get a capacitor (or whatever it writes)

so, now is up to you, good luck!

you want to have a good ground for everything...ALWAYS. I agree that a 1 farad capacitor would be a good investment. It takes alot of strain off of the battery and the alternator. From my experience, unless you are running a really extreme high wattage system the stock alternator is pretty good. I'd say put in a cap and don't worry about it.
