: Hard Start DET!

Ok, just wanted to find out what the common hard start problems are (if anyone has experienced this *fun* problem) with s-13 SR20DET's or SR20DE's.

I have not narrowed down the source of my problem, and figured I could save some time finding common faults that will cause this.

I don't "think" that it is fuel related. I have good fuel pressure, and my fuel pump runs and primes the system with the key in the run position before I turn to the start position. In the morning I will have to crank it over 4 times (holding about 2-4 sec in start position) before it will come to life. Other than hard starting, it will run 100% fine (also, if I let the car set and cool down for about 4 hours it will start alright). It seems that the problem is not so much temperature related, but simply the time the car sets before use. It could be so many things... any information will help.

The next step that I am planning on is removal of the intake manifold for a good cleaning of the acc valve ass., injectors, tb, & inside of the manifold.

I purchased a front clip so I have all of the factory parts. I left off some parts & 1 sensor on the drivers side of the engine & bay. These parts re-routed some exhaust, but I know these parts should not impair starting to such a degree. Plus, it had to be removed for clearance issues.

Thanks.

remove the fuel rail and have someone turn the key to run the fuel pump. you should inspect for any leaks through or around the injectors. the injector or oring seal may be leaking causing one or more cylinders to flood. if the car sits for a long time this fuel will evaporate making it easier to start.

just unbolt the rail from the manifold and leave the fuel lines connected.

see what that turns up

I will start with the fuel rail, and inspect for leaks/cracks around the injectors. Will try to get my lazy @ss around to doing it tomorrow.

Thanks
