Since my wife's car doesn't have the header on it. I wanted to put it on
the Sentra last night. After soaking the bolts in WD40, I loosened them
up(in order). I get to the one under the EGR tube(lower right corner), and
it comes off real easy. That's when I knew I was in trouble. Half of the
stud came out, the other half stayed in the head :(

After a trip to Sears to buy a $40 set of stud extractors, a center punch,
and a pair of vise grips, I started to work on it. It make room for the
drill, I had to remove the radiator, fans, grill, and AC condensor.

After a few minutes of drilling, the stud came right out.

Luckily, I had 2 extra manifold studs from when I replaced mine. The
header is so much easier to install when the fans are not in the way. The
upper radiator mounts also were worn down, so I filled them with 3M window
weld.

The radiator moved around alot, so I hope this helps some. I also took the
CAI out to sell it since I can't use it in STS. The POP charger from
Stefanie's car is now on it.

I still have to remove the old secondaries sometime, and put the new ones
in.

Boy this looks familiar. Good job on getting it out.

My brother's old engine in his NX was the same way. The one right under the EGR tube was broken off just like that. How bad was the process to get it out? I have it sitting in the garage so access is easiest now.

Eric - what kind of car does your wife drive?

This is what I used: http://www.sears.com/sr/product/summary/productsummary.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0279235156.104 5162592@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccheadchhmgfglkcehgcemgdffmdflh.0&vertical=TOOL&fromAuto=YES&bidsite=&pid=00952152000

They cost $40, but worked like a champ. I used the 8mm one, and it fit just right.

She drive's a '97 SE-R.

No, the header was on her car, but we are selling it soon, so I took it off. I'm putting it on the '91. That's the car with the broken bolt. It came off her car with no problems.

That's definately a scarey oops. When I was getting my rocker arms fixed one of the valve cover studs broke off. Luckily, Dre's friend was there, and he had it out within a few minutes. Scared me though.

lol, the same bolt broke on my block. I figured I would have to lift the engine from the bay a bit to get a good angle on it, so I've been driving with that bolt missing for more then a year.

I did bother to get some new bolts in case I ever got motivated, but it really hasn't been an issue.

Nice to see it can be done without onbolting the engine!
