alright my dad has had it with his 01 Altima's lack of power, so he asked me if he could drop in a maxima engine and i said doubtfully, so i brought up the det, could we do a swap?

yes, the BB DET came in the japanese version of that car.

you will need to swap it to the US SR tranny, and do something about the motor mounts (no idea what) and use the stock mount bracket, etc. for the wiring and other details, you are on your own. check out www.altimas.net there are a few people who have already done this swap. i am not 100% sure with the info i just gave you, i have just seen a few DETs in altimas before.

FMAX also sells a turbo kit for the altima, though i wouldnt push the KA past 8-10 psi, the rods and pistons are not very strong.

We get that question like 2 times a day ...And the answer is basicly if you have enough time and money you can do anything !!! It is not an easy swap , unless you have the right parts , and the US SR20 Trans is NOT the right parts !!! It in no way will work without major fabrication , but there is a trans that will work ..I believe it is the Bluebird SR20DE FWD trans or the Pulsar SR20DE FWD trans ?? The right trans has the correct top mounted trans mount and a Hydraulic clutch ..... Other than that the swap has been done only ONCE !!! That I know of , and I have been in the Altima World since 98 ........ Unfortinately the 01's do not have a JWT ECU program , so you could F-Max the KA and run a custom fuel system , or SR20DET with a custom wire harness and ECU .... Or there is always Nitrous !!!

you could use a B13 NX2000 master cylinder. this should allow you to use the B13 or B14 trans. axles, i have no idea about, and you will most likely have to have some custom motor mounts made (which isnt too hard) you would have to change the clutch pedal, etc as well, to run the cable clutch. not sure about the shift linkage. i thought this swap would be easier than this, but we think a lot of things that arent true...oh well.

but, it has been done, i have seen 2 here in SoCal so far, though i am not 100% sure on their setups. my knowledge of altimas is not very extensive, i only know the B series platforms.

didnt see that is was 01 though, nm then. if you want more power, then i would recommend just Fmax-ing it. going SR will not be worth the aggrivation, unless you want to convert your wiring harness, or go with a standalone setup. not worth it, IMO.

and why would altimas.net flame him off the boards? that sounds awful childish of them....shit., SR20 guys wouldnt do that.

Not exactly. The L30 was never put up for sale in Japan. They used a different platform altogether. It may be practical to use U13 parts, though, especially since U13s had a factory FMIC. It would be best to try to source an entire U13 front clip, which is also pretty expensive.
