: Fabric on Door Panel

Has anyone done any custom make overs on the fabric in the door panel? Mine is in terrible shape and I would like to get something done with it. I have started painting my dash trim to get a nice contrast on the dash and I am looking for something to do with the doors.

If I peel the fabric off what will I find underneath?

IF I want to recover it how do I do that?

Any pics of some finished work out there would be great. Thanks everyone! My car is coming along well for only being in my hands for a few short months.

You have to cut the fabric out and peel it off. When glueing on the new material, you can trim it after it is on and tuck the edges back in the groove. The groove is, of course faux. The door panel is only on piece. I think its a urethane mold.

The tricky part is getting things to lay right around the handle. Actually, to make it look decent at all. One of the more common problems people have is that the glue soaks through the fabric and discolors sections. Or, some ppl use a water based glue and it just falls apart at the next rain ;)

I had an upholsterer do this, I just picked the material.

Its all one piece but is seamed together above the door handle.

That looks great! How much did you pay? For sure this is something I am going to do to my interior this summer once it gets a little warmer out. I am planning on painting the door trim pieces to match as well. Thanks for the info.

I cant say how much a door quote would have been, because I had alot of other work done at the same time.

Socal, I wanted to do mine in leather or vinyl but my guy told me that what happened at the crease of your door panel would happen to mine too eventually. I didn't believe him but that picture actually confirmed it. He also told me that without a panel to fully come out that it would be hard to tuck in. I will be using black suede or cloth material now!

But you should see my armrest!!!!! Ooo lala!

Yeah, the original fabric had done that too. But, only on the driver side, so I don't think that the issue is an absolute given.

I did have to do some post work on it for tucking in, I think the upholsterer had lost his patience with it. A little time and TLC got it real nice.

Leather armrest ? hmm.... I do have an extra black hide in the house. My armrest could use a touch more padding too.

I did the rear strut tower covers in the same grey as the door inserts. That turned out really nice. I was tempted to cover the parcel shelf too, but then I thought I might be getting a little carried away.

Do you have pictures of your armrest? This summer I am going to completely redo my interior. I am just trying to get ideas and plans on what to do. I want to sound proof the doors better, trim out the doors (already started on the dash), get new seats or recover mine, and do something with the trunk area.

What are some good suppliers for fabric? I want to have everything kinda matching and looking planned out. I have seen some interiors in 8 different colors and looking all crazy. I want to plan it all out before I get started.

Thanks for the info... lots of people are reading this thread so start posting!

What is the name of the shop in Lansing? Let me know and I will check them out. So there will be another NX in the area, NXracer17? I am trying to get the Nissan close to finished this summer.

Keep the tips coming folks! Thanks.
