For about a half year now, my 93 senta se-r has been making an odd tick-tick noise from the engine bay. Its been getting worse and a few days ago, the noise got really loud and the car became undrivable. It would stall at idle and make ugly vibrations and noises. I took it to the shop and they think its a blown rod. They want to put in a new engine, which will cost about 1000, plus another 1000 for installation. Plus they want 200 for "gaskets and other things you replace when you swap and engine"

I've asked around and people have told me this is a rip off. I want to get an engine from sr20development or some other sr20 reseller and either give it to a shop who will do it for a fair price or do the job myself/with help from people who know what they're doing. Do anyone know a shop that will charge no more than 6-7 hundred, or is anyone willing to help me, in exchange for the proverbial 6 pack and dinner? I have some experiance with brakes and such, but I haven't done or seen an engine swap and I don't have the tools to do it right now. Thanks for your help in advance.

I wish I could help, but I am to far away. You could get a jdm engine for less then $500 easily. Maybe a few people would be willing to help and make the job inexpensive.

I am not speaking for Ben Davis. However, Ben will install an engine in your car for $200--or something close to that in his garage. You can get a JDM engine for about $500. Have it shipped to his place and either tow, or drive, your car to his home in Kokomo Indiana---just north of Indianapolis, Indiana.

I would suggest you search a bit on this site for the best place to buy the engine. Then email, or PM, Ben to see if he is willing. If so, work it out with him and then we can have another "geekout" at his place. I would be more than happy to come out and help.

If not, maybe someone in Cincinnati can host one unless you have room at your place. If you do, then have Ben and the folks in Ohio come out to help. We did a swap in Nick's (Sakerocket1) Nx2000 in about 12 hours. I am certain we can drop that time to 8 hours if everything goes well.

Poke around and see what you come up with. As I mentioned, I would be more than happy to lend a hand. I just don't have the space at my place.

He is right. I am here to help you out. $250 for the swap. Get the engine delivered to my place, we can swap it (like many before you) here on a weekend. You can sleep in our extra bedroom (or on the couch, or floor, doesn't matter to me) and we'll get it done. Others on the forum usually try to come out and help out of the goodness of their hearts.

theres a shop right by my house that sells primera engines for 600 bucks. with a 90 day warrenty. i got my egine from there and its in perfect condition. the valve train is is cleanest i have ever seen. ill send you pics if you like. i dont konw how it runs yet but i should finish the swap next this weekend.

Ok, some things came up and I can't do it the weekend of march 15th, but I can the weekend after that, so the 22nd. I've looked around for engines and I'm probabaly going to get one from Soko. Can you PM me with you address and telephone #? And you can have the old engine, no prob. I don't even have a place to put it at home.

I have a question though. I have AC on the car, so should I get it disconnected first at a shop, or can you do it?

AC is not a problem. You just unbolt the compressor from the block and let it hang while you swap the engine. You don't have to depressurize it or anything.

I have a similar poblem to Jarek M's. I have a 1991 G-20 and it started to knock pretty bad the other day. I took it to a shop here in Lawrence, KS and they said it was a rod berring and my only option was an engine swap. They quoted me 3 grand. Sounded a bit steep to me but I'm not much of a mechanic. I, too, could use a little help. If your interested let me know. Thanks. Also any idea where I can get a good reliable engine?

If anyone has an old engine (SR20DE) they don't want then let me know and I would be willing to take if off your hands for a reasonalble price..

yeah 3 grand is waaay to high. Get an engine from soko, JGY or sr20dev, it will probably cost you around 550-600 shipped, maybe less even. The labour cannot cost much more than a grand, especially if you take it to an engine swap specific shop. Or you can try to get into contact with Ben, on someone else who is willing to do it in their garage. I think Ben is really busy with other swaps and his own projects/other stuff so that might not be an opption.
