I have been doing some research on some coolers and have wound up with some questions.

I plan on setting my NX up for major track abuse & most likely MAJOR street use. I would like to keep all of my fluids temps to a reasonable temp. I want to run a cooler for the oil, tranny, & powersteering fluid.

Is it possible to run a tranny cooler with a manual tranny?

This will have a DET in it, to the tune of AM.

What I wanna know really is "Could I use a Perma-Cool dual circuit cooler with a 900cfm fan for the oil, and tranny fluid".
(Summit part #PRM-12311)
And a small slim line cooler from "AutoZone" for the powesteering.

To top it off are fuel coolers worth the money to get? If not, too bad. I bought a Flex-a-Lite fuel cooler. (Summit part #FLX-4136)

Sorry for the ramblings,
-Tim

i didnt see anything about an auto tranny in there...why would you need a tranny cooler on a manny (im assuming)

they dont heat up like autos do

There has been some speculation by those in the know that a tranny cooler for a manual could help third gear and the VLSD live a bit longer. You would have to be careful tapping into the case for the inlet and outlet ports, and then have fun finding a place to locate the pump.

Power steering has never been an overheating issue.

Fuel cooler is 99th percentile stuff and you need to watch for rules getting in the way if you're running sanctioned events. ECU should be tweaked for the denser fuel charge.

Actually, that's not an accurate statement.
Overheating power steering fluid can cause an on/off feel in the steering wheel.
This has been noted by a number of track racers.

Most of the SE-R cup racers have removed their power steering pumps , using the RTR p/s eliminator kit.

If you don't want the to eliminate your p/s here's how to install a cooler (http://www.se-r.net/engine/psf_cooler_install.html).

I have yet to hear anyone mention a problem with overheating power steering fluid. If something is said at all about P/S, it's how can one eliminate the power drain and un-needed weight.

It is certainly possible to beat the pump, but that's not a heat issue.

I take it you're not on the SE-R mailing list. Or perhaps you are but haven't been on that long.
It has beeen mentioned several times on the SE-R mailing list.

I've Dyno'd (http://www.sr20deforum.com/showthread.php?threadid=15812&highlight=P%2FS+eliminator+kit) my car with the RTR p/s eliminator kit installed. On the Dyno it frees up 2HP. Of course on the Dyno there's no load being applied the steering wheel, so figure on the track, the HP gains could be at least double that.

It is certainly possible to beat the pump, but that's not a heat issue.
Actually, heat IS an issue. At the track the high temperatures encountered cause the p/s fluid to boil. The OEM p/s cooler will do nothing for this.
The p/s will act as if it has a random on off switch and will behave in this manner quite erraticly.

BTW, most of (if not all) of the SE-R cup racers are using the RTR (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/randomthoughtsracing/) p/s eliminator kit.
Tom Paule, he track tested the first one. In fact he gave a pretty good revue of the p/s eliminator kit and why it's needed.
Mike Kojima, Rob Cadle (I'm pretty sure he has one), Joel Ward (of course) and I think Naji Dahi.

I have heard many stories of boiled over power steering on the track. Also heard of fading power steering, which is that on and off effect you feel in the wheel. I have the RTR PS elim. kit now and it will be thoroughly tested this spring.

Bruce, there is a bad problem with classics overheating their power steering. You can get it to do it just autocrossing. The 200sx resivoir fixes the problem. Or you can try the ultra top-secret Pat Griffith rag. Don't laugh, it works.
