Does everyone's car back fire or is it just mine? mine does it just about every time I let off the gas. It wasn't that noticable until I had my 3" exhaust put on.
Thanks

mine does too, but i have a gutted cat (i know, i know, its bad, and it doesnt help anything, its being replaced soon) if that has anything to do with it, i'm not sure?

Well I have no cat. one 16in. Dynomax bullet muffler were it was and a 24in. dynomax bullet muffler were the stock resonator was and just pipe out the back. I really don't like the back-fireing, I wonder if it there is any way to make it stop?

i was about to use a dynomax bullet as a resonator to see if the backfiring stopped???

I used to backfire, same way let off the gas, I liked it but I also cured it by advancing the timing. I was running rich and you could smell it. It used to happen on my CRX and I had a camaro (for the diameter and flow) cat on it.

It cuts down on the droning but does nothing for the back fireing

I have heard of two things that cause this. One being the timing and the other being bad exhaust valves.

Mine done it when i had a bad exhaust (there was a leak around the muffler)

Might look for a leak guys

A leak is a very common reason for backfire. Just curious, those who are getting backfire what year is your car?

i have a 91 and it backfires like crazy too, it has a pacesetter header and a aerospeed muffler, the rest of the exhaust is stock, no leaks. i can understand when im at a high rpm and i let off the gas its gonna backfire, but what i dont like is when im going down the road in 5th gear and let off the gas and it still backfires. oh well i guess theres no cure

my 1991 is backfiring like crazy, I know it's an exhaust leak where the header primaries meet the downpipe. I am also running rich bigtime too, gotta get that fixed...it does sound kinda cool

I have a 1997 with a f-max stage 2 on it and the only leak I have is the flex-pipe, it seem to be wore out and exhaust comes out of it. I had my timming at 17* and now at 15* and it backfired just as much. My car runch extremely rich when I let off the gas with the clutch in, It makes the car stumble to 400-500 rpm for a few seconds.
Does anyone's car stumble like that also?

Im wondering if the backfiring is more of a 91-93 high port problem. Im thinking this because of the problem they had with port wall wetting. That, and I guess maybe the newer one's that are doing it have an exhaust leak, like you have 1F@$t9d7.

My car backfires alot when it is under temp. Once the car comes up to temp it eventualy stops. I have been told that a cool blue flame comes out the muffler..
