: Day 1 on the road to boost.... EGR removal ????
97SE-R C2 02-23-2003, 02:48 PM Started out pulling the ECU and packing it to send it for the reprogram. Next I pulled the VC (getting it powder coated). Then I started removing the Upper intake. Took me an hour and half. I'm letting it sit with PB Blaster on the FPR and injectors. Plus it's cold here in Michigan so I needed a break.

Now for the EGR question. What all needs to be done? I know I need to make a Block off plate and I plan to do this now since everthing is out of the way. What needs to be done with all the hoses? I want to make sure I remove the right ones. Help is appreciated! Do both of those brass brackets get removed?

ANyone ever have this happen when installing the injectors? I was tightening them half a turn per side at a time then it just snapped. FSM doesn't even have a name for it  hmmmm......

97SE-R C2 02-23-2003, 05:20 PM This is what I have pulled so far. Is this all I need to remove? Well of course the tub from the exhaust manifold too. ;) What do you do with the vacuum line from the port on the right in this pic. Could it be used for a boost/vacuum gauge?

sr20det808 02-24-2003, 01:57 AM I never took that out, i just capped it
blairellis 02-24-2003, 10:18 AM pull that crap off chris! weight reduction...
i think that piece you cracked is the injector cap.
if you have any questions about the egr removal hit me up on the celly 703-298-4098
hey you can either hookup a vacuum gauge to that line, or plug it with a screw
coach 02-24-2003, 12:06 PM block off the hole that the EGR left behind, then block off the hole by the throttle body that the EGR pipe runs to from the exhaust manifold. Then, get rid of or plug whatever vacuum lines were there and just leave that sensor that used to be on the BPT valve alone. It can just hang. That should kill your EGR problems. Your other option is the upper and lower INtake from a JDM application.

97SE-R C2 02-24-2003, 06:34 PM Cool, thanks. I just really wasn't sure if I had removed it all. I guess I thought it was more complicated than it really is :D I tend to do that. I'm going to drill and tap the block while I'm waiting for the ECU. Any pointers? I want to do it w/o removing the radiator. We'll see though......
gpriceynissan 02-25-2003, 12:11 AM For those of you w/o EGR--did you guys pass emissions? I want to take mine out, but I'm afraid I won't pass with a turbo now. 97SE-R C2--if a '95-'99 sr20de injector cap will work for you(i think it will--you do the research), I can send you one when I get a chance(or 2 if need be) for just the cost of shipping. PM me if you want them.
freak4 02-25-2003, 01:46 PM Chris if you need any of those injector caps i've got 4 extra ones off my old motor i could send you, or i could drive up on a weekend to help out. Also if your going to powdercoat your valve cover i know of a good shop in MI that did mine (candy red). Let me know. Keep it real

Driven97 02-25-2003, 02:41 PM Is that a stock airbox? I haven't seen on e of those in a long time!
Hey, I see a Gingerman entry form there- I plan on going back over there a couple of times this year. Let me know when you are going, so I can come too.
Remember that metal gets brittle when it's this cold out, so be careful.
I don't think you can drill your return line without removing the radiator unless you have a 90 degree adaptor. Keep in mind you are drilling your block, and it would suck to screw it up. I'd just remove the radiator just to be safe doing something that major.
Good luck, boost rules!
97SE-R C2 02-25-2003, 05:28 PM I plan to try and make it to gingerman weekly. They run test and tunes on tues/wed/thurs. 50$ from 5pm til sundown. That entry form is for teh CLUBSI.COM event. I'll be tearing up some hondas ;) To all that offered the injector cap I appreciate it but I already ordered one from the Dealer for 5$ so it's all good. Steve if you ever want to meet up let me know. Kinda a far drive for ya butI will need help on the clutch install if you've ever done one.
freak4 02-25-2003, 08:37 PM Yeah for sure i can help out on some weekend, Road trip!!!
Driven97 - WHATS UP? Is this Matt from West Bloomfield? I forgot his name on here so let me know. I'm down for gingerman in the summer too, we'll have to set a day. PEACE

SR20RACER 02-25-2003, 09:25 PM I'm going to drill and tap the block while I'm waiting for the ECU. Any pointers
I would take out the radiator if I was you. It will be a lot easier to drill and tap your block. Be careful removing the upper oil pan, if you pry to hard to get it off it will crack. (trust me) Just make your car look like this and then go to town!!!
