Yes. Slight horsepower gain, slightly better throttle response, slightly better gas mileage, slightly higher risk of detonation.

I took mine to the maximum , 19* . I use Sunoco 94 ( Ohio ) fuel , and with the throttle cable trimming mod , it has a noticible gain . :)

what do you mean higher risk of detonation?

Ignition timing is one factor in determining knock sensitivity. More advance means more chance of detonation.

free HP...do it...you wont be dissappointed...

if you only have 91 octane your gonna want to go no further than 17* if you have 93+ octane you can go with 19*

I love it!!! :) Definitely use at LEAST 93 octane *** if u go to 19. I use 94 at 19 degrees

I remember reading somewhere from a naysayer of advancing your timing that heat had something to do with it and that the hotter the outside temperature the greater the risk of detonation. The reason i ask is im considering this but i live in AZ so temp. is a factor.

Well, I live in FL and I use to have my timing up to 19* when I was NA with s3 cams. I had no problems with detonation during my summers or long trips in the car. I would recommend that you only use premium if you do decide to advance the timing.

Ok, so is it safe to make a rough guide like this then:

Up to 16* degrees - 87 octane
Between 17*-19* degrees - use 89-91 octane
19* degrees - 93 octane

Umm, no. I was running 17 degrees on 87 octane with no detonation whatsoever. My dad was running mid-grade on his SE-R with 18 degrees and no detonation. Only need to run premium on 19 degrees.

I live in Phoenix and run a 15* timing (high end of the factory spec, also what JWT programs for) in the summer when i gets above 100* outside, and I run 17* in the winter (less than 100* outside). I only use 91 octane as it is the highest available.
