: ES Shifter bushing install question
jokergrin 02-27-2003, 01:40 PM Hey all,
For those who know how to install the shifter bushing by Energy Suspension, do you put back on the little plate that protects the bushing on the passenger side of the bushing? It makes the whole end piece really tight when the washer is tightened. Before, with the stock bushing, when the nut was tightened, the bushing-holder-thing was able to move up and down, but now with the nut just half as tight as stock, the whole end-piece wont move without lots of force. Will this make it difficult to shift once everything's put back together? (I'm doing a clutch install also...so the tranny's dropped right now).
Let me know what you all did...
Thanks!!

SmoothDaddyFig 02-27-2003, 01:47 PM Leave the plate on. Its suppose to be tight to hold that thing in PLACE!!!

NOPE. It will feel nice. All that bushing does is stabilize the shifter.
jokergrin 02-27-2003, 01:52 PM ok...well then I guess my shifter was in pretty bad shape before *** that thing was LOOSE!! I'll make sure the nut is nice and tight before i put my car back together. Thanks for the info!

sakerocket1 02-27-2003, 02:25 PM My old stock one came out in a couple pieces. the es bushing is so nice feeling.
SmoothDaddyFig 02-27-2003, 03:10 PM I take it you haven't done the Motor Mounts yet.
Be prepared for FUN.
jokergrin 02-27-2003, 03:19 PM about a year ago I did ES Motor mounts...just the front of the car, and the firewall mount. I haven't done the tranny mount or the mount on the passenger side...
I do have experience installing a new passenger side mount on Colin Cox's car though...
I think I need a new passenger motor mount though, *** upon decel, I get a vibrating noise. After the clutch install, I'll do a motor mount install probably. (I'll just get an OEM one though).

jokergrin 02-27-2003, 03:21 PM why does the board edit out the word "c u z"? It's just short for "because" for me...is it a bad word or something? :/ wierd.
coach 02-27-2003, 03:44 PM hey man, just a helpful hint and forewarning. use some loctite on those bolts when you put it all back together. I have seen a couple short shifter installs go bad really quick cause they loosen as you drive.

jokergrin 02-28-2003, 07:56 AM ok..I can do that. Thanks for the tip. (btw, I'm not doing a short-shifter install...just putting in the shifter bushing since I'm down under the car doing a clutch install)...but I will use loctite on the nut to hold in the bushing....juuuust a dab. :)

eliterit 03-10-2003, 01:36 AM i just want to say that i just installed my shifter bushing and man what a difference. and i also noticed that there was only 2 12mm bolts and no 14mm bolt could be found? i think mine might have fallen off or something. but i did put a spare nut that i had lying around on that round plate that holds the bushing together.
Toolapcfan 03-10-2003, 07:47 PM Damnit Fig! If you were close by I'd shoot your hood and fenders for you! You need to get some primer/sealer on those, that black crap doesn't protect the metal at all.

This came up just in time. I'm going to be doing mines soon also. Would like to know how you progressed with your job.
Doing your shifter bushing or your clutch? PM me if you have specific questions...I'd love to help ya. The shifter bushing install was really easy. I didn't even need instructions on how to do it...just unbolt the bolt, pull it out, pull the metal insert out, push the old, stock bushing out, put the new one in, put the metal insert in, put the bolt back in, and tighten the nut. Really simple, and really great mod to do!!
