: Swap Costs
DILLIGAF Racing 02-27-2003, 10:26 PM Reallistically (spelling?), if you aren't paying too much for labor, how much would this swap cost? It says the motors cost anywhere from $1000- $2500, but is that pretty much drop it in cost, or are there other costs? I would love to do this. But I am also thinking of building a SR20DE.
CowboyDren 02-27-2003, 10:31 PM Building an SR20DE is no different from a VE, except that a VE will make a lot more power for the same money. The primary differences between a DE and a VE are two solenoids that have to get wired (currently, smart people use auxillary RPM switches), and the fact that VEs don't have a lot of emissions gear, like EGR. Basically, there is a trivial (like, an hour at most) difference between doing a DE R&R and a VE swap.
If you're still teetering on the edge, I can kick a little harder, too. :)
DILLIGAF Racing 02-27-2003, 10:34 PM Kick Away, it won't get done anytime soon, but I am thinking of doing something.
mod_addict 02-28-2003, 10:10 PM i am doing a ve swap into my 1.6 liter 200sx and i plan on building the motor before it go's in to my car, and i was wondering what kind of after market cams i should use? if i should use any.

SR16VE cams are the only known cams available that increase power right now.
SR20steve 03-07-2003, 05:50 PM How much can SR16 cams be had for? And I was reading in the NPM articles how they were using the auxiliary RPM activated switches, what brand and part are these and where do you get them? does anyone have a link to the product?

Do a search for MSD in this forum. Not to long ago I posted a thread about this entire topic.
98sr20ve 03-07-2003, 06:07 PM I added this info to the sticky.
SR20steve 03-08-2003, 10:24 AM Alright thanks steve.
gqsway 03-27-2003, 05:10 PM Are you guys saying that the VE is easy to swap in. Who knows how to wire the selonoids on the VE? Plus, would I need an ECU.
So far, from what I am gathering about the VE is . . .
1. you can use the DE tranny
2. Same motor mounts
3. Drops right in :D
4. Wire selonoids
is there anything else that I am missing here guys
CowboyDren 03-27-2003, 05:48 PM I would suggest treating a VE swap just like an R&R on a DE. Pull the connectors and vacuum hoses, drop the DE, swap necesary parts like AACV and IACV to VE, push back into place, reattach hoses and connectors. The ideal is to have JWT reprogram your ECU with the VE program, with any changes you need/want. The solenoids to activate the cams are on the head itself, close to piston #1, IIRC (stop me if I'm being a crack monkey), and are really better handled by outboard switches and relays, like the MSD or Summit units, rather than a stock VE ECU, which requires replacing the engine harness.
JustinP10 03-27-2003, 10:42 PM Check out the FAQ for some install write-ups. Under the "how hard is it to install?" and "Where can I find more information about VE engines?" titles there is sufficent information and links to answer your questions. I've also written up a little something for NPM the past 2 months, you can find that info at www.nissanperformancemag.com It's not super detailed, due to length requirments, but hopefully it'll give you a general idea of the install. All of the info necessary can be found by reading the previous threads in this section, all the information is there in one thread or another.
ZoliElo 03-28-2003, 04:26 AM Justin the articles are awesome... I have been looking forward to reading them every month for I have a foolish dream that VE can pass all of the emissions requirements - clean running (should not be an issues) and disguised enough to look like a DE.
CNibbana 03-28-2003, 08:48 AM I added links to Justin's SR20VE write-ups to the FAQ links area. I also tried to add a reference to the write-ups in the "how to install" area but I've reached the 10,000 character limit in the FAQ post. Subsequent information will probably be in a new post in the same FAQ thread.
GoinSleeper 03-30-2003, 02:28 PM this might be a weird time to ask the question but you are using a car that already has an SR20DE in it right? if you have the GA16DE then its gonna be more like hell doing the swap. at any point there is loads of info all over the forums. shouldnt be hard to get all the info you need. good luck
