Just wondering, with a turbo car, how long is good to warm up the car from sitting(cold) ** pounding it?

I ususally wait until about 140 F, which is a bit more the 1/3 of the way warm based on the neddle. I dunno why I choose this #, just did. Even then, I don't get on it too much or too long until the car is all the way up to temp.

I wait to the oil is fully warmed up. Just because your water temp is up doesn't mean your motor is.

I usually wait about 5-10 min always before the car even sees more than 3k

with rentals, as soon as the car fires up, i am flooring it!

with my car, i usually wait a few minutes after the water temp is in regular operating range. you want the OIL to be warm, as this is more important than coolant being warm (actually, the bst would be COLD coolant, warm oil, but thats never going to happen)

True... you'd be surprised at how long the oil takes to get to full temp (~200F). When I was at Ford, I got a ride in an instrumented Explorer and it took about 30 min. for the oil to get fully warm. And this was in 80 degree weather. I was really surprised. I later had an oil temp gauge hooked up in my car and it also took about the same amount of time to get up to temp. I do usually wait a min. of 5 min. before I get on it.

I usually don't take mine above 3K rpm until the needle in the temp. gauge has been in the normal operating range for a few minutes.

My 97 GTI VR6 took about 5 minutes to get to 210 degrees which was normal operating temps. Thats with 10w30 Mobil one bTW. But we all know the VR6 is a hot engine ;)

I remember when I first took the car out from the dealer lot and asked the same question. The crook I mean salesman told me some what truth . That the car goes on at 1500 rpm and as it warms up the rpms go down. AGAIN I asked so when can I drive it hard like I will always, and he smiled and said when the rpm needle gets to 1000 then it's warm and ready. So ever since I've taken her out as soon as she gets to 1250rpm, and granny shift her no more than 3000 rpm until she's at 850. THEN THE RACE/HUNT is on! almost lost to a civic hatch with type r motor(He got the take off ) But whooped him good (by at least 3-4 cars) not even redlining any of my gears. closest race ever. that was with dajw50 shizot last year. Now, forget about it!:D pure rape!
