What kind of oil filter do you guys use on your SE-R? And where do you guys buy them from.

Id go with just the standard nissan sr20de filters... you can get em for like 4.99 from your local nissan.

I used the OEM Nissan filter (15208-53J00) $4.xx

For this oil change I was lazy and didn't want to drive 20min to Nissan and went with the Mobil 1 filter (M1-103) $12.99

Only thing is, the Nissan filter fits much better to a point where I took the Mobil filter off and checked it because it seemed to fit so loose! I put it back on and when tightened it fits fine. I will be going back to the OEM Nissan filter next oil change though.

Check this out. I've had this page bookmarked for years because you can make your own assumptions from the pictures.

It is widely agreed that the Nissan OEM filter is the best.
The Puralator PURE 1 filter is good also but costs more.

K&N is a waste of money although does the anti flow back feature the OEM one has at 1/2 the cost of K&N.

The Purolator Pure One filter for a toyota Previa Minivan fits my 92, and it's much larger than the OE one. Never had a problem with leaks or anything.

OEM is all I use. You can't go wrong with a OEM filter.

Not to be redundant, but I've also always used OEM filters on all my Nissans, and I plan on using it on my classic when I get it running again. I read forever ago on sentra.net that OEM filters are the best ones, so that's what I've stuck with for the last several years.

The name brand of the filter is irrelevant. It is the design and construction of the filter that matters. Quality and design varies widely between brands.

This is an excellent article on some of the major brands and their designs:

You can't beat OEM, thats what I stick with. I usually order mine from Mossy when I need something from them I just add a couple filters to the order.

The OEM filter has an anti-drainback feature that is very nice. The elements used in the OEM filters of of very high quality. No need for anything else. That and a filter relocator. The filter is a pain to get to.

I second what nxcrazy said, I just get two or three everytime I have to order anything. That way I usually keep myself stocked up.

the last time my dad went to a "jiffy lube" it just happened to be a friday @ 5 and the guys seemed a little upset to have to do one more car... anyway he drives an hour to his house and the way back into town on monday his oil light comes on.... apparently the guys at "the lube" put on the wrong size filter because it was able to back itself off and let the oil out. it was looked over and had the correct filter and new oil put in and hasn't done anything ugly yet... i will say this, there is the faintest lifter tap when you first turn the key in the morning... for all of 2-3 seconds and that's it.

This is exactly why I do all the maintenance on my vehicles myself. It probably costs more but at least I know everything's been done correctly.
