Car threw the engine light last week after the speedo had been operating when it felt it like it. Basically I reset the ECU after pulling the VSS code and am wondering does this happen often with the electric speedo? Just got this car and my G20 is mechanical. Will it hinder performance and go into limp mode if the light returns?

How much are the speed sensors?

I don't think taking the bulb out of the check engine light is a good idea, you may miss an important code. The VSS going bad is not that uncoman, they are cheap, under 40 bucks. I replaced mine when it went bad, it wasn't hard

A speed sensor is exactly what is sounds like & won't hinder anything serious. I believe that they run about $35 or something like that.

Thank you, the speedo works intermtantly. Somedays its fine and other days it will stay at 0 and then after a few minutes of driving it will start working again

Ok did you swap the trans or take it out recently?
I had the same problem. If worked fine after the swap for days, then all of a sudden no worky... then it would work when it wanted to..

So i looked at my picks of my install. I found I didnt connect a connector on the trans. Its just a black wire that connects to the chassis and hooks to waht looks like nothing on the trans. Well this wire is a ground for the speedo... i connected the cconnector to the clip and low and behold it works again....

Anyhow if you dont have a connector try attaching a small guage wire like 12guage to any bolt on the trans and then attach that wire to a good ground on the chassis... see if this works... Id send a pic of what i mean but its on my brothers comp...
