: GT25 and SR20DE(T) pics
unlucky 03-16-2003, 04:25 AM Here's a few pics of Erich Tucker's longblock and the modifications I had to make for the GT25 to fit properly. I used a Blue Bird manifold.. The GTI-R manifold made it even harder to fit! This turbo is NOT a bolt up affair. It required me grinding off a lot on the block.. and then welding up a hole that was exposed.. and grinding it down again. I also had to put a spacer between the turbo manifold and the head. Now, I have to find some exhaust studs that are longer. Any suggestions? Overall.. I like it.. It was just a lot of work to get it to fit.

http://www.fi-r.com/Erichsturbo.jpg I love the way that looks..;)

The motor will be going back in this week coming up.. Can't wait to get her runnin!

Yellow4g63 03-16-2003, 05:40 AM sweet, whats that turbo rated for? altho turbos usally go beyond what they say it should do.
unlucky 03-16-2003, 05:57 AM Louis assures me that it can do 400whp at or around 20psi of boost. No one has dyno charts... and there is only one other person who has this turbo on a SR20.. so I don't know what it will do. The turbine is an NS-111 wheel and it's in a .86 A/R housing. The compressor is a 60-1 I think and it's in a .70 A/R T04S housing. I don't know how that exhaust side can flow enough for 400whp though. I guess we'll see when it comes time to dyno. Louis swears up and down that it will do 400whp.

I thought there was a guy that had the same turbo on his RWD SR?
unlucky 03-16-2003, 01:57 PM maybe so... dunno.

Yellow4g63 03-16-2003, 03:16 PM are you goin to port that manifold or send it off to get extrudhoned? I have seen some stock ones where the inside could use a good port job.
Wicked R 03-16-2003, 03:44 PM Damn that is a beauty... The exhaust housing has already been ported... I think we picked up an additional 18 cfm?? Travis, correct me if I'm wrong... But damn things are really coming together now... I love being the guinea pig for this project... :D

skyliner 03-16-2003, 04:49 PM That is a BIG compressor, I'll bet it sucks the filter through it. I wonder if someone could make a canted spacer to go between the turbo and manifold. I wonder if the right trapezoid shaped spacer could/would move it away enough to negate the need for grinding. What is the inlet on that thing, looks to be 3 or 3 1/2 ? Very nice.

unlucky 03-16-2003, 04:50 PM Yeah.. I am actually going to start making the spacers and selling them if we get some good results with this turbo. I have another one here for a customer in Canada.. and I have a spare motor to use for the placement. I'll let you guys know how it comes out..

unlucky 03-16-2003, 04:51 PM It's a 4" inlet on the compressor :-P

 It needs a warning on it, "keep small animals away!"
I remember reading about a guy that put one on a SR though. He said it was a bada$$ turbo for the money. I wish you guys luck on the testing. It damn sure looks mean enough:cool:
unlucky 03-17-2003, 02:52 AM I know man!! I'm excited about it! I can't wait to see what kind of numbers it puts out.. The speed mismatch on the wheels kinda concerns me.. but I still think it will be a kickass turbo. :)

808 Ser20DET 05-30-2003, 06:34 AM yo,Is that an internal wastegate I see?WOW!
What kind of turbo is that and how much?
Thanks
rednismo6 05-30-2003, 08:38 AM turbo looks great, it tight against the block....
808 Ser20DET 05-30-2003, 08:44 AM i found out the turbo by searching.also i found a place that was selling it for $1295.Is that good price?
Also i was just curious. That setup seems pretty tight...is the actuator gonna fit?
unlucky 06-01-2003, 04:27 AM It's VERY tight.. and it doesn't come with the actuator. I used an actuator from a GTI-R turbo and had to weld on an extension to the bracket so it would fit the GT25's bolt pattern. Other than that.. it works fine. The fitment is very tight.. and you have to grind/weld on the block to get it to clear. You also have to run a spacer between the manifold and head to push the turbo away from the block a little.
808 Ser20DET 06-01-2003, 05:21 AM oh ok.well i was probably just gonna make a custom exhaust manifold for it.Also where did you get your turbo at?
unlucky 06-01-2003, 05:25 AM Please PM me if you need a turbo... Thanks
Travis
Andreas Miko 06-01-2003, 09:08 AM I was thinking Unlucky about that setup you have in the pic.
Have you ever tried to just have the comp inlet cut down from 4 inches to 3 inches. I figured it would be a perfect fit for say a Cobra MAF or 300zx MAF and you could use 3 in inlet piping.
The other option which I do with these turbos is I take about 3/8s off of the GTIR manifold to turbo flange. This moves the turbo further up and away from the block which allows you to line up the comp inlet with the notch in the block and also it allows the turbo to not touch the block so no grinding would be needed.
The option listed up top would also not need the head to GTIR manifold spacer.
I did option 2 on a DET motor I did a while back and the turbo I used was th HKS GT2540R with the .60 AR T04E comp housing.
unlucky 06-01-2003, 01:30 PM You know... I thought about cutting an angle on the turbo manifold to block flange on a mill.. but I didn't think about cutting the manifold to turbo flange. That's a good idea. I thought about putting a T04E compressor housing on the turbo.. but it wasn't until after we had started working on the project. The T04E housing probably would have worked just as well.. I mean.. This turbo isn't going to make 400 or 500 hp anyway. I have another one here.. I might have to try cutting the turbo flange like you are talking about.
