: cuting off coolant to a t25 safe?
builtdet 03-18-2003, 06:57 PM i was wondering if it is safe to cut of coolant to a t25 turbo?
does a t25 turbo even have coolant ports?
this may be a dumb question but i am very new to turbos thanks for the replies.:(
unlucky 03-18-2003, 08:44 PM I've seen it done before.. I don't ever run coolant filled center sections.. I just don't like the idea of coolant and oil being that close to each other.. ;)

builtdet 03-18-2003, 08:45 PM thanks for the reply do you cap them off or do you leave them open
1fastser 03-18-2003, 09:03 PM Is this a BB setup on a US block? If not, I would leave it.
Don't think there would be a problem to leave it open. Personally, I would cap it just for looks...but that's me.

200sx se-r-t 03-18-2003, 09:12 PM the turbo will not over heat if you cap off the coolent passages?? will the life of the turbo be shortened in any way ?
charlie2020 03-18-2003, 09:30 PM Life will be shortened and perfermance will slightly suffer to.
builtdet 03-18-2003, 10:22 PM this is a T25 on a non turbo de i put alum. flattop pistons so the turbo will not be running very high boost
how much shorter will the life be months years not enough to tell?
spdracerUT 03-18-2003, 11:14 PM if you don't run coolant, make sure you idle the motor for a bit to give the turbo time to cool down.
The NX 03-18-2003, 11:48 PM is it possible for the oil and coolant to mix? cause theres still oil in my coolant  after changing the head gasket. what could this be?
i wouldnt cap the water lines off. being that its a T25 and spins a lot quicker to maintain the same psi as say a T4, it probably gets a lot hotter.
mcguiver7 03-19-2003, 12:51 PM coolant on the t25 cools the core, oil is cooling and lubricating the bearings not the core. therefore your core is goin to get extremely hot. the whole point of idling your car before turning it off is to let the bearings and shaft to cool down. if you cut the water lines then the core is still goin to be very hot with you turn off the car making the bearings harder to cool. so i would think that you would be defeating the purpose of idling your car. but im guessing that worst it could do would just shorten the life of the turbo.

builtdet 03-19-2003, 06:14 PM thank you for all the replies they all will be considered
97SE-R C2 03-19-2003, 07:35 PM IMO, Nissan put them there for a reason and for 25 dollars worth of hose I'm going to use them. Plain and simple...
builtdet 03-19-2003, 07:40 PM what size fittings are u going to use?

You left out the $50 worth of fittings. ;)
I'm splicing into my heater hoses (have to do both to create flow) for coolant flow to the turbo (t3/t04e). Got some barbed tee's from a plumbing supply and some aeroquip fittings and hose from the local perf. shop. The tee's are like 5/8", 5/8", 3/8" or something like that.
...added security and it definately won't hurt performance.

97SE-R C2 03-19-2003, 08:16 PM Nope I only need a 2 dollar adapter which I really didn't even need. It was just such a pain in the ass to plumb it back in without the existing piece of hose. I can take pics if anyone wants. Oh yeah I had OEM hard lines that came with the turbo so I cut off the banjo and flared the end. The Super stock hose will be slipped on and clamped...
1fastser 03-19-2003, 08:29 PM That works!
My t3/t04e center section has metric fittings! Took me forever to find the M18 x whatever threads fitting. Aeroquip was the only I could find...even searched McMaster-Carr diligently.
97SE-R C2 03-19-2003, 08:41 PM Luckily I have one of the largest Midwest Rubber distributors about 10 miles from home. Also have an Aeroquip store closer :)
1fastser 03-19-2003, 10:25 PM Funny you would mention that...
I searched mcmaster-car and called many perf.shops and plumbing supply places...one of the places I was referred to was Capital Bearing, which is an Aeroquip dealer. Ironically, they are less than 5min from my house which is 25min from anywhere.
builtdet 03-20-2003, 08:34 PM can we see some pics
