The passenger side was the easier of the two for me to remove. Are you sure you have removed the 3 bolts that hold the axle to the engine. If not follow the axle and about half way to the tranny there is a block that has 3 bolts in it that holds the axle in place.
I just yanked good with my hands and it came right out.

okay i did just that. and i have the axle out. but is that transmission fluid leaking out of the tranny? if so i'm assuming that i will have to change the tranny fluid right?

right, it does that so you got to add some more tranny fluid to it....

there's only a little fluid leaking out? man, i had a lot come out. remember to grease up the axle seal before you put the axle back in.

the axle on my ga16 was fairly easy to get out. There was just a tranny to engine bracket that goes around the axle. you dont even have to remove it though. on mine there was no block that holds the axle in place just that metal bracket that shields the top of the axle. it isnt in the way of the axle so I just took a small pry bar from the top drivers side and put it in the tiny space there was between the hub and tranny and it popped right out. I did the job pretty quick.

for me the drivers side has been a bitch, i've taken about 4 out now and theyre all a pain. If i remember correctly, SR20development has a tool to help remove this axle

If you jack up the passenger side of the car real high, you can keep gear oil leakage to a minimum.

In fact, the last time i did the driver's side, nothing came out at all during the hour it took me to get the axle to Napa and come back with the warranty replacement :) Which is good, expensive Redline oil works much better in the trans than it does on my driveway.

okay i just filled the tranny up with some coastal 75 90. i put in about 1 and a half quarts. a question i want to ask is: can i drain all the tranny oil if i raise the drivers side of the car and take off the ps axle? the reason i'm asking is because i'm having a hard ass time getting my drain plug off. will all the tranny oil come out though?

If you had the hardware to break the axle nut loose, maybe you could use it on the drain plug? IMO, a tough axle nut makes a stubborn drain plug seem like child's play.

I don't think the drain plug is exactly made for a 1/2" drive end, but it works. Get an impact wrench in there or jack up the car enough to manuever a breaker bar. Kick, tug, and swear it loose, and it will eventually go.

Don't use an impact gun on the drain or fill plug. You will strip it out quick. I use a 1/2" rachet and a hammer. Put the rachet in the drain plug, and a nice hit from a hammer loosens the plug every time.

are you talking about hitting the hammer on the side of the ratchet handle? because if i try doing that wont it strip the plug as well as an impact would? my plug seems to be stripped already when i first looked at the thing. i'm the 4th owner of this car.
