got my pacesetter header on and i hate to say it but it sounds ricey im not happy with it but i think its because i have a straightpipe for a resonator hopefully when i get a glasspack or something like that it will help im lookin for a deeper sound i dont wanna be driving a car that sounds like a bee buzzin all around!

If you're lucky, you can get a exhaust place to let you try a few resonators to try to eliminate the buzzy noise. As it sounds like you know, changing the size of the resonator, changes which frequency you eliminate most.

If you can insert a resonator without welding, you can literally try one on for 5 minutes decide if you like it before getting it fitted personally. A friend of mine did that here. (In Aust)

if you're looking at a thrush glasspack to replace your resonator, you're not gonna get the result you want. my car sounds like a bumble bee more often than not. don't know what to suggest to you, sorry.

i dunno my muffler is also a "pepboys special" which im gonna changing anyways that always sounded pretty decent so you guys dont think a glasspack would help i have 2.25 all the way back as well i dunno it only does it after like maybe 4 grand

let me clarify, i have the longest glasspack that will fit in replacement of my resonator and 2.25" mandrel bent cat-back piping (left over from the ps exhaust). i also have the ps header. i replaced the ps muffler with a dynomax ultraflow. i also have a leak somewhere in my cat. i can't really stand the sound of the car, but it gets me to where i'm going. a bunch of guys like their greddy/trust exhaust. maybe someone could give you some info on that.

A glasspack will reduce the resonance and tone a bit, but not much. Go with one of the Magnaflow 4" round mufflers. They have them in various lengths and in/out ID's. They will cost you a little more compared to the $15 Thrush, ($45-$60) but you will not be dissappointed. I have a Thrush glasspack right now and it does the job but sucks on the freeway with excessive droning and when WOT. Cheap ass crap!

i love the way group think works on this forum.. a few months ago everybody would have been shouting "get a thrush, it'll quiet it down".. now all of sudden we have the honesty... the thrush only helps about 20-30% in terms of noise and quality of sound..

i want a used HKS..

I have had a 28" thrush and an Apei N1 exhaust for a couple years now and it's pretty quite on the freeway, and cruising. but loud if your on it. And it's not so bad now that my cat is back in. If I want it quiter then i can pop the silencer on. But my main question is is why if you're trying to put a perforomance exhaust on you guys bitch about the noise. If you dont like the noise keep the stocker on there. As w/ most performance parts you make a trade off w/ NVH vs power. It's a part of doing mods you lose something for a gain somewhere. If you like it to sound stock get a cutout before the cat so when you do want to play or just scare the piss out of a reving riced out honda next to you at a light. Sr20's sound nasty sick when open all the way up. lol

I have a Thrush glasspack on my Stromung mid-pipe attached to an OEM muffler... and it is quiet as hell. No droning.

I think you all ought to narrow down the factors a little more. Could me more at fault: cheap azz mufflers, exhaust leaks of any kind, piping that is *too big* for an NA, tailpipes that don't extend past the body, reduced sound deadening material....

As for the bumblebee sound from above, that sounds like it is more attributed to your exhaust leak. Never underestimate the effects and sounds of a tiny exhaust leak.

Once my car sounded like a VW, all of a sudden. I thought the car was missing, or fuel was inadequate. Turns out the connection from the primary and secondary on my HS was a little, itty, bitty leak causing the sound.

Well, there is a reason why Magnaflow sells those 4" long ass "straight through" design mufflers and market them as resonators as well. Because they are quiet yet they are still "straight through".

That is why I bitch. There was something better out there and I did not go with it at the time because I did not know about it. Now I do, therefore I bitch! :p

You do not have to sacrifice a quiet exhaust to increase performance and air flow if you do it right. That has been proven many times.

I absolutely love the sound of jacen99se's '99 2.0 SE and his is a complete cat-back exhaust that is not annoyingly loud nor does it present excessive freeway droning like mine. And his car has many more go fast goodies on it than mine does.

llaprad1,

Mine consists of 2.25" stainless cat-back tubing with a 2.25 in/out 18" long (5"x8" casing) Magnaflow SS and a 3" stainless tip that protrudes past the rear fascia. There is no issue with that part of the exaust. It is the THRUSH.

my exhaust is (starting from back of cat) glass pack, 2.25 piping back to a edelbrock turbo series muffler....

it sounds soooo good, quiet in the car, deep outside the car, and it flows great!!!

when u say glass pack suck donkey ass, do u mean ONLY a glass pack and no muffler? i would agree with that...

my cat back is 2.25 mandrel bend by a good shop and a ss straight through can...it works well for me and it sounds waaaayyyy better now that I have the PS header on it.

I am nothing but happy with my header and my exhaust. The only time i get buzzing is when the pipe isn't warmed up but a couple trips to 5k rpm fixes that problem :D
