: A New NX among you. (with pics - sorry dialups)
Deacon 03-20-2003, 12:09 PM I've been looking to pick up a project car recently, and a friend pointed me to a 1993 NX2000 5spd with 140k on it for a whooping 700 bucks.
So I picked it up this past Sunday.
Needs a new timing chain tensioner (thank you FAQ) which I already ordered, and the paint is a bit tired on it, but all in all I think I got a great deal. It'll be a daily driver car for awhile, so I can stop putting tons of miles on my 02 WRX.
Already ordered 15" Rota grids and 205/50/15 Azenis (hopefully waiting for me at home right now) and with any luck I'll be calling Ground Control this afternoon.
I did some searching and it looks like the sweet spot for suspension (daily drive/heavy autocross/light track) is KYB/AGX with 350/300 Coil over kit. I don't want to drop 2500 bucks into a suspension, but I don't want junk either. Any thoughts on suspension would be great.
If plans work out I'll be looking at a DET soon enough.
Deacon

FastNX 03-20-2003, 12:25 PM Nice find! Body looks a bit rough, but if i remeber correctly, there are only 7 blue '93 NX2000s.
You are one lucky guy!
AaroNX 03-20-2003, 12:43 PM Thats a good find man. I wish I could find one that cheap.
Patch1 03-20-2003, 01:30 PM Wow only 7 blue 93 NX's, cool because I have one, my front right fender is dented too....I just got ground controls and agx's and they only put me back $964.00 with the Koni bumpstops and they came assembled from Ground Control...good luck on your project....Peace
Deacon 03-20-2003, 02:08 PM Just got off the phone with Ground Control.
350/250 KYB/AGX Coil over kit, with their trick Camber plates, and Front and Rear ST sways.
1500 bucks later.
I just blew more than twice as much on suspension as I did on the whole car.
Patch1 03-20-2003, 04:21 PM Cool, I can't wait to see pics................
LowDownNX 03-20-2003, 05:40 PM 7 sapphire blue nx's... unfortunately this isnt sapphire blue lol.... but regardless nice find man!
Pretty White 03-20-2003, 05:56 PM At least you are doing it the right way. Set up the suspension before you go power hungry. I like your style.
You need a new r/s fender (no sense in trying to straighten it). The body is straight, so a good paint job should take care of it. Nice find.
NissanTuner 03-20-2003, 06:32 PM 700 bucks?!
*rams head into wall*
why cant i catch a break like that?
Deacon 03-20-2003, 11:32 PM heh. The kid selling it was moving back to the Phillipines in a few days, I think he just wanted it gone.
rednxcoupe 03-21-2003, 01:57 AM saohire blue or not i wish we got that colour over here in australia
i think that blue looks awesome
chriscar 03-21-2003, 03:05 PM ACK - I can't look!!!! I was all set to buy that car, when you stole it out from under me. I was going to take Amtrak up to Boston, and drive it back. Ten minutes after I got off the phone with the previous owner, asking for some more pictures, he called me back saying someone local bought it. You're one lucky dude! That was going to be my 'spare' car, and I would have given it to my daughter when she started driving in a few years.
Seriously though, best of luck with the car, is sounds like you're off to a great start with it. I hope it treats you well. How are the ball joints and rear brakes? He said he failed inspection baecause of them.
Chris
Darshu 03-21-2003, 03:42 PM I went up there with Deacon to get the car -- the ball joint and brakes weren't conspicuously bad, but I've got a set of calipers and rotors to replace the rears with. Aside from the timing chain jingle, the car is in great shape mechanically.
P.S. Sorry about stealing it Chris :) I heard you on the phone with the guy while we were there. I'm loving the Hypercos I got from you btw :)
chriscar 03-21-2003, 03:49 PM Dude, I hook you up with Hyperco's, and you help this guy take my daughters car? It's a good thing I didn't tell her about it. Do you have any idea what kind of torture a 12 year old girl can put a father through?
Chris
Deacon 03-21-2003, 03:59 PM the solution to this is of course to never have kids.
Yeah, I'm thinking the ball joints were a "I can fix them for you if you want to pass inspection" thing. He said the rear calipers don't work at all, but I havent noticed it yet. I'll replace them anyhow, for fun I guess.
chriscar 03-21-2003, 04:09 PM Since you're ripping the suspension apart, you should do the ball joints, check the tie roods, and install a full ES bushing kit. It's cheap and you don't want to take it apart twice.
Be forewarned, it's a stone bitch to remove the rear lateral links. Do a search using my forum name, and "rear link" or something similar, I posted the part numbers for every single nut bolt etc.... that you could possibly need.
Take good care of my car, and give me first dibs when you sell it.
Chris
Deacon 03-21-2003, 04:23 PM ick. I had thought about doing the ES kit, but replaceing bushings scare me. I did that on a 98 Neon R/T I had awhile back, and it sucked balls.
Was hoping to stay away from that.
chriscar 03-21-2003, 04:25 PM The front kit is simple. don't skip it when you do the GC's. The rears.... that's up to you. Do some searching on the forum, and you'll have a better idea what you're in for.
Chris
builtdet 03-21-2003, 10:01 PM Everyone has already said it but i will congrat. you on your great find i paid about 3000 on mine, i know i know but i was 16 and had the money i feel in love with it lol lol
