: ACT clutch enough for turbo?
Crono1321 03-24-2003, 01:28 AM I was wondering...if I have the ACT Heavy duty w/ Street disc combo on my car (for about 5000miles) will it be enough to hold the boost of a T25? I heard stories of it slipping? My only other mod that will be there is the 91intake cam. Thanks in advance.

ITR_KILLR 03-24-2003, 10:18 AM My HDSS starts slipping after a couple runs at the track, it holds ok on the street, I've put about 20K HARD miles on it. a normal person shouldnt have problems w/ it for a good long while :D
Crono1321 03-24-2003, 11:02 AM Hey thanks,
I thought it would, I have just heard conflicting opinions, thought I would ask just to make sure. I was going to get pissed if this clutch I just paid $350 for is not going to make it once I finish the turbo. :)

Nayzan 03-24-2003, 12:14 PM I have a ACT HD with a b-14 disk on my t-25 at 8 psi.
And for i never slip (slap?) during the last summer. Done maybe 3000 miles with it.
coach 03-24-2003, 02:52 PM I think you will be fine man. I have heard of people using the jwt disc on T25 setups and the ACT HD will hold a lot more.

Crono1321 03-24-2003, 03:02 PM Alright thanks Coach (haha that sounds weird saying it like that). I believe the HD is supposed to hold like 260ft. lb. or something in that range, 220-260? Thanks

sr20det808 03-24-2003, 03:20 PM Im using the stock clutch with my t25 and it seems to being doing a good job. But if that one goes, i got a ACT stage 6 with a heavy duty pressure plate. Im sure that biznatch will do haha
97SE-R C2 03-24-2003, 05:50 PM I'm going with the Extreme PP and Street Disk. SHould be good enough. I'd say that clutch will hold just fine. As long as your not launching on slicks ;)
Crono1321 03-24-2003, 08:36 PM I don't drag that much anyway. This will mostly be for daily driving to school and work.

1fastser 03-24-2003, 09:33 PM You should be fine with the HDSS setup. I had that on my BB setup that ran 13.8@104 with full interior and street tires...and was driven pretty hard.
I also plan on using the same setup (mostly because of money) on my fmax stage 2 setup...I would rather roast the clutch than my tranny...we'll see.

blackb13 03-24-2003, 11:04 PM The ACT HDSS will slip at anything more then 7psi. It will not be going into my next turbo project. I mean, it can only hold 241 lb/tq at the flywheel. I dynoed 230 lb/tq at the wheels.
YMMV
NissanPower305 03-24-2003, 11:15 PM how bout jwt pp and disc for avenir det?
AntonioG 03-25-2003, 02:39 AM The JWT PP and ACT HD PP are very close in clamping forces, with the ACT being a little stronger. If you're gonna be putting down more than 230-240lb-ft of torque, I'd looks for a more aggressive disk.
I run the JWT PP w/ stock B13 disk and only had slipping issues at the track, but the disk came back and I was still able to run the time you see in my sig. But, I think it's much easier to replace a clutch than replace a tranny. Well not easier, but cheaper.
NissanPower305 03-25-2003, 01:34 PM thanx antonio
MarkSR20 03-25-2003, 10:10 PM My ACT HDSS is holding up mighty fine. I have seen it slip at around 350whp from a friends car that used to be around here. But it always came back. My Clutch has not slipped once. It has about 30k on it (25k NA, 5k Turbo) and it is great for 250whp. Do not worry about the clutch, if you break it in properly it will last a very very long time!!! Good luck!
insane imports 03-25-2003, 10:56 PM I am running the act extreme pp w/ hybrid street disk. it grips very well. As for breaking trannies i really dont care becase i will be rebuilding the whole thing next year. If your nice to the trans. you wont have any problems. My 2 cents

ITR_KILLR 03-26-2003, 12:40 AM my HDSS slips at the track, then comes back to life after it cools off. kinda crazy, it'll slip like hell after a couple runs, then on the way home, it chirps gears again??
XTR6 is going in w/ the JGY prepped tranny soon!;)
Crono1321 03-26-2003, 09:56 AM Hey that's great news then! I have had the clutch for around 7,000 miles, so this baby is ready for turbo. The most I am really expecting would be maybe 220hp in the beginning. I'm unsure because I am running the s-afc and now JWT, so I can't go on what the JWT guys' numbers are. Thanks for the great responses.

blackb13 03-26-2003, 07:59 PM You guys keep using HP figures when talking about the clutch. It has nothing to do with HP...the clutch is rated in lbs/tq. You could have a motor that puts out 300hp, but only 150 lbs/tq and use the clutch fine. The problem is that the clutch doesn't care about your horsepower, it only cares about the torque.
92SE-R 03-26-2003, 11:10 PM I've had my HDSS for over 2 years and about 40K miles. The clutch had around 20-30K miles on it when I went turbo. It has never slipped on me, even with slicks and 1.9 60' times. HD PP with the B15 OEM disc is the way to go IMO. To the people that have slipping issues, I think it really has to do with how you break in your clutch.
An example of how much I beat on my clutch, I recently went road racing at Holtville Raceway in February. In order to save my tranny, on my downshift to 3rd gear, I would slip the shit out of the clutch to lessen the shock on the gear. After about 10 laps, I pitted, and the clutch was smoking. I literally had smoke pouring out of my hood. The clutch never slipped once. I was amazed.
