i went to pep boys to get one of those haynes manuals and they didn't have anything specific enough for the '92 se-r, just general sentra stuff... also, i've seen a lot of pictures on this website and none of the engine bays look like mine... i have all these hoses and plastic bottles between the valve cover and the radiator... one hose goes into the exhaust manifold, one straight into the valve cover and two others snake in and around back to the airbox and into the intake manifold itself.... not to say it looks too complicated but my '85 mr2 looks like childs play now.. and it was one hell of learning curve... my crx i could work on in my sleep it was so simple... somebody tell me what this stuff is... I don't want to mess up something i'll actually need later. THANKS:eek:

i believe you are talking about the pair valve and the recirculating hoses...

basically emissions stuff.

I'll get some pics of my 91 engine bay with emissions removed and my 93 with it intact to show you what is removeable.

you are talking about the pair and aiv stuff. Most of us take that stuff out and plug the bung in the exhaust that is left behind.

I thought the aiv is to add fresh air to the exhaust to help even out the uneven pressure/flow in the exhaust manifold. I'd imagine this improves flow a little.

aiv is for emissions, to help the cat when at idle.

pull that crap off if you dont have emissions coming up soon

i asked one of the guys at my shop what he thought it might be and possibly "california emissions" came out his mouth... we don't have emissions checks here in texas like they do in tennessee... that's where i got my '85 mr2 with a bad water pump in murfreesboro. i got a buddy at the inspection/muffler shop so i don't think i should have too much trouble getting by ... but by all means please put the pics up of the engine bay with and w/o the stuff. the whole reason i even noticed the stuff is because i wanted to take the exhaust heat sheild off and all this stuff is in the way!

Its not just a california thing. The AIV (the silver thing and one of the black boxes), adds air to the exhaust stream under certain conditions. It wont hurt performance, so there is really no benifit to taking if off other then to clear out some room. The other black box is part of the pcv system, its an oil seperator.

It's only Nashville/Memphis and surrounding counties that have emissions, the rest of us have none. I hear Dallas is worse, got those rolling emissions tests now...
