I recently had my engine swapped to a jdm. I got the car back from the mechanic and noticed a clunking noise when i would let off the gas then get back on it real quick. It almos sounds like something is hitting somewhere. I can feel the clunk underneath the gas pedal against the floor. My boy chris and I took a look underneath the car and he noticed that there is a bolt missing connecting the engine to the tranny, and another bolt was loose. I was told it could be motor mounts, except 3 of my 4 mounts are es mounts. I was also told that the exaust might be hitting the bottom of the car, but we couldnt see how that could be it. If anyone could offer some advice, that would be great. thanks in adavance...John

I have the same problem except that I have all ES inserts in my mounts. I recently found that my engine was "sitting" on the bottom of the mounts. So I raised it alittle and check the distance on the dog bone mount to see if it was in spec. It could be a bad ball joint also. I had one go bad and it made a clunking sound + wheelhop.

Freaking some idiots (not mentioning no names) practice not putting the front dog bone back when doing swaps (SR20DET swaps specially when the turbo has to face down) cause there lazy and this can lead to big problems as this mount has the greatest influence on keeping the engine in check from moving back and fourth which will lead to a broken tranny.
P.S. But your not turbo but check it anyways.

Ok, ive taken the car to three different shops and they had a few different opinions, but nothing conclusive. We found that when my engine was swapped, the menchanice obviously didnt want to put in 2 of the tranny bolts. So, i had one of the two replaced, and the noise is still there. We (nismoser and I) also noticed that the sway bar end links were loose, so we tightened those up. I took it to another place, and they said it wasnt the ball joints, because the suspension seemed fine. The last thing i havent done is change the passenger side motor mount to the es mount that i have. 3 of my 4 are es mounts, except that one. However, im fresh out of ideas, and the clunk is still there. one more note, if i try to start out smoothly in first and i dont get a good smooth start, then it clunks more rapidly and i get wheelhop too. I could realy use some help on this. Thanks again. John.

i had the same clunk on hard acceleration it turned out to be my lower control arm bushing's you cant really tell that there bad unless you have a new one to see the thickness variation
