I'm taking the company's 2001 Chevy Astro cargo van to Soko tomorrow morning to pick up Rittmeister's motor. Anyone else want me to pick anything up for them? I believe you can call and use your credit card to pay and then I could load it up. I could easily fit 4 FWD SR20s in this van, maybe 6. I'm open to anything that I can carry really. Trannies, RWD stuff, etc. Just let me know and you can call them and pay over the phone and I can haul to my place for free.

What happened to Kent's motor?

Soko is near where blackb13 lives. :) I'm not sure of the address, but I'm sure it's on the web somewhere.

Kent's motor doesn't have the best compression, doesn't pull well at all, and there was something else more pressing that I cannot remember at the moment. Kent?

Motor leaks oil. It's either the front cover or the headgasket. Buying a new motor is far cheaper than fixing either problem, and of course if I fixed one prob it would be the other one. As far as "not pulling well", I just haven't driven enough SR20 cars to compare, and of course when it's your daily driver you are just used to it anyway :(

Compression numbers are also somewhat low (mid 150s), so I decided to bite the bullet and switch it out. Ben was kind enough to mention that since he'd be in Chicago, he'd be willing to pick the motor up since we're swapping it at his place. Thanks AGAIN, Ben!

What are you doing with the old one? I know someone who needs a low port head (me).

Ben, I had once spoken to you about helping me with an engine swap a little while back and if you are still interested in doing it I could call Soko and buy a motor with a credit card and have you pick it up. If you are interested let me know and we can set up the details of when, where and how much you would charge.
You can PM me or give me a call at 785-841-4994. I will be at that number untill 11:00pm central time.
Thanks,

Ok, so far I'm picking up a motor for Rittmeister, G20 Dreamin, and probably Laly. Anyone else? There's still space, probably... :)

Thanks Ben, greatly appriciated. Let me know exactly when you think you will have time to help me with the motor swap. You mentioned the weekend of May 31/June 1, I'm sure that will work for me but if something else works better for you let me know. I'm not in a huge hurry, I've got a bike and a girlfriend for transportation.

If you could though, let me know what you charge. Also I've got a header and CAI and thinking about getting a 2pc UR pulley set, do you think we could do that stuff while doing the swap?

I believe you mentioned before that I should get a new water pump, but I may have read that somewhere else, is this so and should I get anything else?
I know I'm asking a lot of questions, I just want to make sure I am prepared.

Thanks,
-Allen-

You'll need: new NISSAN OEM water pump, 4qts of MT-90 or equivalent "GL-4" (not gl-5) tranny fluid, 4qts of 5w30, coolant, plugs/rotor/cap/wires and possibly new VC gaskets and axle seals. (might also need new belts)

This is also the time to do motor mounts and clutches.

Id do the front and rear crank seals as well. Maybe a chain tensioner and seal, but that's easy enough to do later if needed. Oil pressure seal wouldn't be a bad idea either. Weld the tranny while it's out and you've got the seals out, or do the JB weld. Like black B13 said, at least do the crossmember mounts, the other two are easy enough to do later and don't affect much anyway.

So how much are you getting the motors for? DET or just an OEM U.S. spec SR20? I need a U.S. Spec SR20 adn will probably get it from SOKO. Does the price include all the accesories or not? Is it new or used..... THanks for the help!!!

I paid 450 from Soko.
Standard jdm SR20.
Used, they say about 30k to 40k miles.
Not exactly sure what accesories, if any, it comes with.

I called the midwest SOKO the other day, they gave me the price of $475+$75 shipping to Detroit, then I called the westcoast SOKO, they told me $350 and they couldnt' believe that the midwest one was asking so much. I'm working with the westcoast one right now to maybe get one shipped to me for less. Has anybody else ran into any problems like this with them?

It's called "supply and demand." The Midwest SOKO has been selling through SR20's like hotcakes and therefore can charge a little bit higher. If people weren't buying so many (ie, last year), then I'm sure the prices would drop.
