You should still be able to use it if nothing is broken off of it. As long as the scaring isn't to bad or wide, just lightly sand down the burrs. The rockers follow the highest point of the cam lobe. Be careful not to take too much material off though.

Unfortunately for me I broke a lobe on my S4's.

well my lobes arnt so badly scared except for the third one on the exhaust....is all scared up....i mean deep cuts.....and the rest there is only little scare here and there....but wouldnt it affect the rocker arms anyways....wouldnt it dig groves into the rocker arms and start digging and digging...that would be a problem in the near future.
and damn how did a hole lobe brake off of your s4's. must of been a hard hit on something.....mines only got groves on it because it was tossing the broken rocker arm around inside the head....it even put a big hole in the plate under the valve cover....

The rocker broke and wedged itself underneath the cam. Right between the HLA and valve spring. I broke off half of the lobe not the whole lobe.

oh damn....mines are not that bad....had more time today to take a more closer look at the lobes and i think i might be able to use it after all....it has some groves and sharp points on it....i can feel it with my hands but those can be easily sanded down and after sanding it i can use some kind of polisher to make it smooth...the lobe is still there but it just has groves in it....i already bought a hole head off of a friend with rocker arms and cams....but i might end up using the rocker arms and and the little things that the arms sit on only...

jwt precision grinds those into spec. IF you do try to get it working again I would recommed taking as little material as possible, just get sharp edges out. don't polish over and over to make it look good.

yup thats what i plan on doing....also i also found out after i took the cams out that the exhaust cam has cracked at the cam gear....it has a little slit in it but not too big or wide...it just almost reach the smooth part....i think i can probably weld it back together because i can weld and grind off the excess...

I don't think you should do that. If its that bad where it has scratchs plus a crack then I would say its not worth an engine. JUst my opinion though.

ok i had more time to inspect my cams more closely and i also sanded down the sharp edges that are on the lobes....it looks like it can be used agian.....didnt sand much at all actually.....but unfortunatly the exhaust cam is cracked at the cam gear so have to try and weld it together and see how it looks like....and see if it would hold good as new

so i got a question now.....can i use s3 intake cam and stock exhaust cam.....oh yea and another interesting thing i found is that the lobes that are on the jdm intake cams are about the same size of the s3.....interesting! i compared them and they look the same....so im gonna run s3 intake and stock exhaust and see what happens....!

What did you compare with. I hope your not eyeballing that ish. get a micrometer and measure accurately.

Yea, unbalanced engine components are bad.....josh

oh yea hey forgot to repost....they arnt the same....i was looking at the part by the cam gear where you use a 2" ranchet to turn the cam......THEY ARE NOT THE SAME....SORRY ALL.....
but hey i know unbalanced engine components are not good but just experimenting.....on the new engines the intake cam is smaller then the exhaust.....so i just thought i try a larger cam on the intake to see waht goes on....just curious....

I would replace it. Most cams are surface hardened, so once that outer surface is gone, the metal is softer. That lobe will go flat shortly, filling your motor with metal shavings in the process.
