I bought a new 3 ton jack and jackstands to replace my hand me downs, so i jacked up my car to see as much as possible...and boy am I sorry I did that.
I knew I had a dented oil pan, or at least the stamped steel lower pan was dented from a tire I hit on the highway. Looking further into it tonight I found that the leak extended to the upper pan as well. I removed the wheel and guards and found the source. It's pretty obvious I have to replace the entire pan.
I am looking for impressions of this job or helpful hints. Do I have to take the downpipe off? Any info would be good. I have an FSM for th basic outline of the job. Is there anything else I should do while I'm under there?

Not much else needs to be removed to change out the oil pan. If you are doing both the upper and the lower, then you should check out the main bearings while in there.
Buy the pan from Turbo91SER, he is a great guy, sells good stuff and will help you out!!

When you take off the old upper pan make sure to take off all of the bolts. (there are two behind a small metal plate, that I missed) Make sure you buy a Sentra upper and lower pan together. Trying to get a G20 upper to a Sentra lower pan will not work. Even though they are both for the Sr20 they are a little different. Good Luck

You have to removed the downpipe, or secondaries if you are not using a turbo, and the crossmember. Don't forget those 2 small bolts, or you will be removing the trasnmission to replace the rear main seal holder.

Thanks a ton, this has been really helpful!
One lil question...where is this plate that hides the two bolts? I'm gonna get back under my baby tomorrow to look at the crank seal and make sure it's not leaking as well. There was some oil/grease above the oil pan line that I need to look into some more me thinks.
Thanks again!

I got the new(used) oil pan today from Turbo91SER and it came in good shape. It looked like UPS pulled an Ace Ventura with the box though...
I now know what they mean by structural upper oil pan! It looks like installation should be pretty straightforward and thanks for warning me about those 2 bolts behind the plate.
I have another question though: Should I buy new bolts for the pan?
TIA

Na, just clean yours up real well. I wished I would have known that you wanted them and I would have throw them in the box.

I installed the lower pan this weekend. I was fairly certain that the upper pan needed replacing, and it still may, but I cleaned off where I thought the leak was from and I'll check it again in a few days and then decide. The old lower pan had the s*** knocked out of it, so I feel a lil better.
I have another question though...are the engine mounts supposed to be really soft? Or are mine just shot? When I took out the crossmember the engine sank a lot so I had to jack it up from the tranny in order to get the crossmember back in.
Thanks again Turbo91SER!
