: Cleaned out engine bay, now engine stutters when accelerating...
JDiddy 04-14-2003, 02:17 PM Hey guys, after seeing all those spiffy pics of the clean engine bays on here, i decided what the hell, I'll clean mine. So I got some of that Simple Green (stuff works wonders BTW) and began the process. I covered up all of the parts that should be covered, battery, distributer, etc, etc.
So after I clean, I'm driving for a few hours, and everything is fine. Then I park it overnight, wake up, and start driving, and teh car is stuttering like crazyon acceleration... If I let off the pedal a bit, it accelerates normally. After like 20 mins of driving, it stopped stuttering and was driving normal through intense acceleration. So, i park again for like 2 hours, come out start it up, and back to the same thing for like 20 mins... rinse, wash, repeat...
I checked to make sure the distrib wasn't water logged, checked the spark plug wires, etc, no signs f h20... the engine is really dry...any ideas on what could be doing this?
by the way it's a GA16DE...
I'll post pics later.
coach 04-14-2003, 02:44 PM Check the maf connection and check for vacuum leaks in the air intake.

Pretty White 04-14-2003, 03:11 PM Also check to see if there is water in the #1 sparkplug galley. That happens ofter on SR20's. Also check to see if the distribtrer cap is dry inside. But my bet is on the first guess.
Serban 04-14-2003, 03:23 PM Water in the spark plug wells might do the sputtering...check that like Ian said.
JDiddy 04-14-2003, 03:52 PM Thanks guys, I'll check all taht step by step as soon as I get a chance... Hopefully it's the air filter vacuum leek. That would be easy to fix. I was in a rush putting the filter back together.

Yup, that happed to me too.
LP Tuning 04-14-2003, 08:59 PM Yep same thing happened to me when I cleaned out my engine. Just get all the water out of the spark plug wells and it should be fine.
CleanSE-R 04-14-2003, 09:03 PM OMG!!! Does she have a twin sister for me!?!?!?:D :D
nx2000racer 04-14-2003, 09:12 PM mine did that, real bad... the plugs were covered in thick white soot
JDiddy 04-16-2003, 02:14 PM Hmm, i checked the spark plug valves and see nothing but what's normally there..... should i take the plugs completely out to check them? MAN i thought it was a bad batch of gas at first..., cause it only does it real bad for a while (like 20 mins) and then afterwards it's fine... This is super annoying, i barely made it to work this morning. I was at 6000 rpms and couldn't get over 20 mph... LOL :p
JDiddy 04-16-2003, 02:21 PM Should I just try a shop vac to remove the water (if i indeed find water), or is there another technique...?
paNX2K&SE-R 04-16-2003, 02:27 PM Me too!

What I did was stick a straw down into the plug "well" then held the top of the shop vac to the straw, cupping my hand around the top of the straw and the nozzle of the vac. This created suction in the straw, drawing the water out of the "well" and into the vacuum. Or if your thirsty you could just use the straw and suck it out yourself;) :D
tommy 04-16-2003, 03:34 PM Me three...or four? I had water in the spark plug well after cleaning my engine. I used compressed air to get the water out, but don't do it right after driving the car. That water can get pretty hot.
paNX2K&SE-R 04-16-2003, 03:41 PM I just pulled the plugs and let the water drain into the motor lol :)

LOL, I'll try that.
JDiddy 04-16-2003, 03:59 PM Hmm, I'm thinking.. This has been since this past saturday, would water stay in THAT long?

The water stayed in mine for a few weeks! And the car was driven every day.

and yesterday after purchasing the car and driving around for hours
opened up the hood and I see water boiling up and coming out
the wires...
well took one of things that you bathe the turkey with
and got rid of the water....
and after taking the car to the lube shop the car started
sputtering will check fuse and any vacumm leaks...
