I went to JWT this last weekend and worked on the VE tuning. the program that is out there is really good. not much improvement was able to be made. JWT tuned it slightly leaner up top for a few extra hp. we used the 20V cams and produced 192whp. not too bad. the engine had filter, de MAF, de header, and exhaust. everything else was stock. the power rose in a straight line and didnt start to roll over til 7700. i will try to get a dyno chart posted as soon as i can.

in two weeks we are going to see how much is gained from the larger MAF as the vaccum gauge in the intake pipe quivered a little bit at high rpm. heck might throw some pulleys on it too. trying to reach for 200hp bolt-ons.

what about the Fujistubo header, you think the little bit of blocked exhaust ports may be holding back a few hp and some torque?

Try a proper CAI, im aware of the different feelings on CAIS but i feel the tube itself may be worth some imporvment as its a larger diameter and smoother

The larger MAF....i can see the stock DE one as a restriction so the VE ot 300ZX MAF may give you another hp or less, it could aslo net a smoother running engine due to less turbulance around the hot wire?

What size exhaust? I hear the Greddy 2.5" one is a perfect match

THose pulleys should be good for the rest of it

Good luck! cant wait to see the dyno sheet

how are you getting pullies for the VE?
What would the availability of the 20V cams be like?

Probably the same way you get pullies for any other SR20; call UR and order them. The crank, water pump, and alternator of the roller engine are all the same as pre-rollers, but the power steering pump pully is different. The Roller and VE engines are looking to be closer and closer cousins than people first reallized. It's not like a GTi-R or a Silvia where all of the diameters and offsets are f!ck!d. Not great. Unless you know somebody in Japan that'll go junkyard doggin' for you. ;)

Sweet! I can't wait to see someone break the 200whp mark. This was done on your stripped out B13, correct? Also, how are the small lobes on that cam? I'm just curious because my car is my daily driver and I love the littlebit of extra low end grunt the stock 20ve cams provide over my old motor way down low. :)

I was pretty sure the VE accessory drive system was like that of a GTi-R and the pullies could not be had.... I remeber the VE guys were trying to get enough people interested for UR to make a set for them...

I am running the UR water pump pulley from my 2 pulley set on my motor right now. I'd assume since i'm running DE accessories that the other 2 pullies of a 4 pulley set would fit over the other accessories too, that might be a few hp at higher rpms. Dunno about the crank pulley, I thought it had a slightly different offset and wasn't interchangable with a UR pulley.

just waterpump and alternator pullies are in the forecast. this was not done in my car. the best cam change was late for these cams 6100 intake 6200 exhaust yeilded the best results.

Do you have an estimate on availability for these cams?

those numbers are impressive...especially when i thought steve had a set of killer numbers...how come your making more than him? by the sound of it you dont have as much work done as he does (i could very well be wrong)

Well, the cams are available now, it's just a matter of finding them. They came in P12 Primeras with the SR20VE 20V engine option and 6-speed transmission. They aren't common in junkyards yet, so that's the trick.

PS - I stand corrected about the crank pulley. Has anyone tried a Silvia or GTi-R pulley yet? ;)

My question is in general directed towards the companies that would be able to cad design these cams and market them, all you need is one set and a computer that can map it and then recreate on a fresh piece of billet. But the cost may be a factor in creating them.

yeah if there is a group buy for 75+ sets of cams JWT might entertain making billets them right now. until then the market is too small.

Would there be any sort of copyright problems with them duplicating the 20V cams? According to your dyno numbers, they seem to be quite potent, if they could simply reprduce them and not have to worry about development costs. But I doubt that is very feasible.
Anyways, what DE header was that and was it port matched to the VE head?
What did the low end torque look like with these cams?

Hey Tom,

Great work, Can't wait to see what you end up with putting down on that engine! :)

keep us posted.

BTW my engine made almost 224HP with EFI and fujitsubo header

The 20V cams are no problem in getting! It is just a matter if you want to pay for them! I can still get them and any other cam in the VE series from Nissan! :)

What kinda mods did you have to do to make those cams work? Did you have to use the 20V rockers?

My car is basically a I/H/E. I have a Adj. FPR but his car is dyno tuned by JWT and himself personally. Bigtom likes to keep the exact state of his cars mods a little secret. Clearly there is a little more power to be had in these cams with some better headers and stuff.

Thay are alot better down low. So much so we needed to make the VVL kick in at 6100 RPM.

So Chris this was on your car not his. Can you remind everyone what you had on the dyno before and what has been changed since that point.
