Ok - going to cost high $200's to refill the wifey's R12, so I want to convert to R134, what parts have to be replaced on the existing system (I know that you can use those conversion kits, but I think nissan made a retrofit kit?) Anyone have a parts list or part # for the whole kit?

Thanks
Chris

Dont they have stores around you that sell the new environment friendly R12? In nyc every store has them for like $10 a can I think. Just need someone to get it for you with a certain liscense. Plus R12 is much cooler than R134...by like 20 degrees iirc.

Chris, i remember reading once that there was a R134a equipped nissan, like a 200 or sentra, from 1995 or 1996 that came with the R134a compressor that will swap over. Not totally sure on that but if you are worried about seals going bad and connectors going bad that would be a route. If not then you can by the conversion kit from Kmart or any parts store and do it yourself.

FAST91SER had earlier made a thread on the same exact thing, converting to R134. Search for that thread and also pm him to see how it went with him.

Get one of those retrofit kits from Autozone etc. I should forewarn you though; there is a chance that it may not work because you will be installing a R134 into an R12 system. So see if you have any success this way. If you don't, go ahead with buying a compressor from Nissan that comes equipped with the R134.

coach, all Nissan vehicles 1994 (including very few '93 cars) and upwards came equipped with R134a, due to federally madated law to make the change. Basically that means, he can go to a junkyard and look for a compressor in any car that was at least a 1994, that would be of the same chassis, or the one after his. Just clearing things up.

Cool man thanks for the info. I didn't know if it was 95 or 94 that they switched over. I think he has the B13 he is getting this for so a 94 AC compressor would be perfect if he has to go that route.

I know the compressor needs to be changed, but I know that some lines (probably just the one with the rubber part) need to be changed as well, I don't want to just swap compressors and throw in 134.

You may also want to look into R406A.
http://www.autofrost.com/

It says that R406A is 3*-8* cooler than R-12 and 8*-12* cooler than R-134A.

Just giving you some alternatives where you don't have to do the conversion.
