How hard is it going to be to transfer the gauge cluster from my 93 to a 92 SE-R? Has anyone ever done this and know what it is that I need to do? TIA

Gotta love this forum sometimes, you ask a question and you get a question

But if you must know I totaled my 93 and I have the shell of a 1992 that I need to swap everything into.

91-92 gauge cluster is better, why would you want to go back?

It is? That's the first time I've heard that.

But since the 92 I have is just a shell, I need to swap "EVERYTHING" from my 93 into it.

I'm sure it's possible. I think the main issue is that the speedometer on the 91-92 have a different speed sensor on the tranny than the 93-94. I just know that when I had my '91 (RIP) the speedometer cable problem annoyed the hell out of me. Now I have a 94 with no speedometer worries and have not yet heard of any speedometer cable issues from 93-94's. Maybe the sensor on the tranny is different too? I think that is the main thing you will have to look into. Sorry I can't be more of help. Just telling you what I know.

I'd like to switch to a 91-92 Speedo, but dont want to swap trannies, so eh.

I wonder if *all* the switches are the same, given the addition of the airbag dealy-o.

Why is the 91-92 speedo better?

I have my 93 motor and tranny that I will be swapping into the 92 so I don't have to worry about the different speedo sensors. All I have to figure out is how to put the cluster in the 92. As soon as I figure it out I'll let ya'll know.

'91 and '92s had mechanical speedos, '93 and up had electrical ones. You can't swap between the two.

I really doubt that you CAN'T do it. Especially since I said that I have a 93 engine, ECU, harness, tranny, and anything else that you can think of. Is just a matter of figuring out what I have to swap.

TTT, anybody know the answer to his original question??? I have a 94 se-r but recently swapped in a older tranny that uses the speedo cable. I can get a 92 se-r gauge cluster and speedo cable but am curious if everthing else back there is the same.

the harness i believe is a bit different. the 91-92 have 3 clips, the 93-94 has 4

um.. im not sure what the extra 1 is for.

I'm pretty sure you're right Juan. My project was a bit easier because the 92 shell I had still had all of the wiring in it. So all I had to do was switch the speedo sendor on my 93 tranny.
