I hope this is in the right forum:

Guy in my area has a 91 classic for sale:

Black, repainted, has 164k miles, A/C, 5 speed, CD, alarm

I did drive it and it has tons of power, but it does have many of the chronic SE-R problems.

Oil leaks from the valve cover, really really needs motor mounts (let of the the throttle at 5k rpms in 2nd gear and damn near went through the windshield), NO 5th gear popout though, the interior is kinda dirty, but under the hood is FILFTHY! Probably never seen a can of degreaser in its life.

Probably needs tires and there is a crack on the rear bumper. No trunk leaks either. No maintnence records whatsoever.

Heres the kicker: He wants $2,900.

Is this insane? How much is this car realistically worth? I really want to buy it, but c'mon.

How could I talk this guy down, because he seems pretty adament on the price??

Need help/advice!

$2000 for it...considering it's probably worth $2900 in "excellent" condition.

I still doubt $2000. It's not in that good of shape, and if you consult edmunds.com, $1,000 is more in the area.

Would it be justified to worry about a car with no maintnence records if I was going to replace a lot of the parts anyway (bigger brakes, tires, tranny welding, cams, suspension)?

Let me know.

A lot of people use kbb.com, check them out to see how fair it is. I gotta leave now, otherwise I'd check it for you. Good Luck!

The leaky valve-cover is easily fixed. Just get a new gasket.

just be carefull. A friend of mine and I went to look at an S13 yesterday and we found out that from the rear passenger side of the car was from a red car and that the driver side was the orignal blue and then the whole car had been painted white. Under closer inspection we noticed that the weld was shit and some of it was just spot welded, then rusted out, and broke..lol.

BTW anyone with an S13 needs to replace the rear hatch because that thing weights more than an FWD SR tranny...lol. WE had the oppurtunity to hold it up since it was missing the shocks and the lock hoop on it..lol. What a POS

soooo to fix almost everything there, your looking at 100 bucks, more time than anything, my car was like this, but body was in real good condition..... i spent a ton of time cleaning the engine bay, did the motor mounts, and numourous bolt-ons (not necessary) and now i have a really nice car.. without spending much more than i did in the first place for the car.
