: GTiR Pistons are different than DET.

From what I was told GTiR pistons were the same as DET, and the compresson change was in the de-shrouding of the combustion chamber on the GTiR. Well I decided to take a look at the pistons today and they are different. The GTiR have a thicker crown, thicker skirt, oil passage through it like the VG30 (IIRC). They are bigger around the wrist pin also.

The Ring lands are the same, compression height, and they CC'ed the same (dont remember how much but the same either way.)

Well these are going in my motor along with the GtiR rods. The rods and pistons are getting cryo treated right now. Bearings and rings are on the way. I am building another serious motor on the side so this will be an project to see how much I can get out of it. Mid June there is a race in Baton Rouge LA that I am going to. I am going to be running a BB T66 with a 75 shot to help spool it. I am going for at least 500whp on stock bottom end, maybe even 550. Comparing the GTiR rods and Pistons to supra rods and pistons I dont see why not. They can make 150whp per cylinder. So 550-600whp tuned might not be all that hard. Remember supra stock pistons are cast also.....

I do not expect this motor to last very long. If I blow it... well so be it. I expect to shatter a piston well before I break one of those rods. So I am not too worried about destroying the block..

I am the most worried about the output shaft on my S13 Trans. I heard they break over 400whp on hard launches. I am going to have some 26 10 15 slick, Spool, and cryo treated axles... I WILL BE LEAVING HARD. I plan on leaving off a 6000+RPM two step with the bottle under my thumb.. I would like 1.5 60fts or better.

We will see....

Well when my friend took apart his S13 sr20 the pistons were stamped with 54c on all of them. I dont know if it was touched but thats how it came. Maybe the gti-r shares similar parts with mainly the rwd version... seems like it from your previous findings.

My DET pistons were not stamped 54C... They were something else. I will check later.

The motor im refering to came out of a completely stock clip with 100km on it. So when i saw the pistons I was surprised as well knowing that those are gti-r pistons. The grade was stamped 54 04 on it *** compared to 54 02 which was on my pistons.
