: Can I bypass the fuel pump harness?

Here's my problem, my fuel pump fuse keep on breaking. Sometimes after I start the car, or sometimes 5 minutes after starting it.

I can't find where's the problem (think it's between the relay and the ECU).

My question is, could I start from the ECU, connect is to a 15 amp fuse then to the appropriate wire on my fuel pump harness? (dry side of the tank)?

Thanks

Yes. You can do it that way, just make sure you use the correct gauge of wire. The stock wires run down the drivers side door sill if you want to find the short.

Run an 8 gauge wire with a 30 amp relay to the fuel pump. You could use other gauge wire. You obviously have a dead short, check a test light and a multimeter, somewhere there's a problem. Correct it.

Ok, Now I'm ready to do the wiring (the 10 gauge wire is installed), I just need to be sure what to do with the connections. I draw something:

click on "fuel pump wiring"

The problem is that I don't know where to ground the fuse. In my shop manual, it looks like it's grounded with the fuse block, but if I bypasse the fuse block, where do I ground do other "leg"?

Also, is it correct to use a green relay?

Thanks for your help.

Since I have my battery located in the trunk now, I wanna power the fuel pump directly from the battery can anyone help me figure out how to do it I don't have a FSM.

hehe It has been 8 days I can't drive (for more that 10 minutes) my car. I tried to re-wire the fuel pump, but it didn't work (mis-understanding of the stock harness), so I tried to locate where the problem is.

There's continuity between the ECU and the relay.
When key at ON position, there is voltage between the port 2 and 3 of the relay and ground (battery voltage).

There's continuity betwen the fuel pump and the relay and the fuel pump ground is correct.

It seems to be an intermittent problem and I don't know what to do with that now. I'm sure the link between the ECU and relay is good. I would like to try changing the wire that goes from the fuel pump to the relay, because this wire goes into a little box by the battery tray (E29 connector) and maybe the problem is there, I don't know.

When the engine working, I poped the hood and shaked everything I could to see if there was a little wire not connected properly, and it didn't stopped.

Is a relay sensible to temperature? Maybe after 10 minutes it just overheats and fails?

Please give me some input, my electrical knowledge stop here!

WARNING !!!! The stock fuel pump circut is designed to shut the pump off when the car is not running ...... if the pump runs when the car is not running and you are in an accident and there is a fire and the pump keeps pumping gas ....well you know where I am going ....
