: Three questions:
Nissan2NR 05-05-2003, 03:49 AM 1. Will a ga16de automatic tranny bolt up to an SR20VE? And if it will, will it hold out under that kind of power load?
2. If i buy just an SR20VE from Yuji, how much am i looking at spending in bolt on parts that are needed for the swap to get the car running properly, since id be going from a GA16DE to the SR20VE, and have none of the parts to swap from an SR20DE. This is including the RPM activated switches for the VVL, and the MSD ignition system.
3. Storm Performace is selling SR20VE front clips, everything needed for the swap except the tranny, would I have to send an ECU off to JWT for the VE programming if I have the SR20VE ECU that comes in the clip? Will these even be compatible on a 1998 Nissan Sentra GXE? Basically what im asking is can I use the ECU included in the clip or do i have to send a 95-97 ECU to Clark.
Thanks for the input, can hardly wait to do this swap. Just trying to get a dollar figure in my head for total cost of the swap minus labor.
johnnykomac 05-05-2003, 09:30 AM how much is storm or yuji charging you?
Andreas Miko 05-05-2003, 09:34 AM The GA16 tranny will not bolt up to the SR20 VE motor.
Nissan2NR 05-05-2003, 10:53 AM Storm Performance is asking 2350 for basically a complete swap minus transmisison. Yuji is estimating 1500 for just an engine, but wont have a confirmed price until his bill of loading arrives.
Nissan2NR 05-05-2003, 06:19 PM So does anyone know if the VE ecu I get with a clip will work on a domestic sentra? or am I stuck having to send a domestic ecu out to jwt for the ve program?
Also since I've established that a GA16DE tranny wont boly up to an sr20ve, will an sr20de tranny bolt up to a sr20ve?
Andreas Miko 05-05-2003, 06:30 PM Get your stock ECU proramed by JWT.
WickedSR20 05-05-2003, 08:20 PM The wiring harnesses will be quite different between the GA16 harness and the SR20VE harness. Unless you get a complete uncut harness with the front clip, I'd send the OEM ECU away to JWT. And as stated above, you'll also need to source an SR20DE tranny because the GA tranny won't bolt up.
Nissan2NR 05-05-2003, 09:59 PM Ok thats cool, final question then:
Will it be cheaper for me to buy just the engine from yuji and then hit a parts store for the pieces needed from an sr20de to make the ve run, or will it be cheaper to just but the complete front clip from storm performance? Somebody told me they can do a VE swap for the cost of the engine plus about 400 bucks in parts, but I've been unable to confirm if this is an accurate quote or not, Im asuming that he was assuming I already had an SR20DE beforehand because i cant possibly see it only costing 400 bucks in parts for axles, axle mounts, etc.
JustinP10 05-05-2003, 10:13 PM The front clip really won't do you any good. The P11 body parts won't fit your car, the tranny really won't work (CVT tranny) and the rest of the stuff in the engine bay you probably won't work either, or you'd already have it. You're best bet is to get an SR20 equipped sentra/200sx and take all the stuff off of that car instead (tranny, harness, halfshafts, ecu (to send to jwt) etc...

That's not quite true. JWT can reprogram a GA computer to operate an SR (including a VE), which would indicate to me that there are few differences, if any at all.

That is year specific info for the GA/SR Ecu's but it is true.

Very interesting. Thanks 4 the correction. I continue to learn on a daily basis. ;)
Nissan2NR 05-19-2003, 05:40 PM I just put the downpayment on my engine from stormperformance through my local performance shop. The engine comes with EVERYTHING for the swap minus the transmission/axles etc, it comes with the VE ECU and an uncut wire harness as well eliminating the need for JWT to reprogram my ECU until i drop my compression and boost the VE. Im looking extremely forward to getting this beast running, I wont even need RPM activated switches. I can hardly wait :)
lalito 05-20-2003, 08:53 AM You can use the ve ecu on a b13, but you will still need the de harness and wires for the selonoids. The jw ecu is better though. The ve ecu is rev limited at 7100 rpm and speed limited to about 117 (or so) I believe.
I'm currently running the ve ecu on my b13.

Nissan2NR 05-20-2003, 10:42 AM I have a B14, Ben over at JWT told me I could use the VE ECU with an uncut harness. Dont get me wrong, I do plan on going through JWT for an ECU program eventually, but it really stretches the budget at this point in time to do it now, im going from a ga16de with an auto tranny to an sr20ve with a manual. the ECU program will come asap after the swap
