When my car is cold, it hesitates on shifting. First gear is OK, but on the shifts if I get on it at all, it hesitates for a split second before I get the power I should have. After the car warms up the problem goes away completely. I doubt it's a mechanical problem; the throttle cable is tight, I know the TB is clean, etc. This is on a 94 classic with JDM swap, with USDM intake manifold. I now have the correct 85k ohm resistor in the EGR temp plug (thanks Calum) so hopefully it isn't that.
Any help appreciated.

Sounds like maybe the AICV to me...
Did you clean that puppy out when you did the swap?

While we're at it, what does AICV stand for? And is it something that would remain in the engine bay when switching engines?

idle air control valve, near the oil filter, has two plugs if I remember right, it has the idle adjustment screw on it.
May or may not have swapped it, dunno? 4-10mm bolts hold it on.

So right, and the upper right bolt holds the top sensor on and acts as a ground. Make sure that bolt runs through it when you put it back on or your car will idle at like 1500rpm and never go down.

OK, I thought it was the IACV... maybe I'm wrong.
We swapped this from the old motor to the new - how do you clean it?

I always get abbbbbbrvvvvs messed up :-)
If you swapped it thats good, did u use a new gasket? As far as cleaning, remove the two screws from the plunger assembly, and spray a lot of carb/choke cleaner in there.... work the idle adjustment screw in and out and spray in there, let dry, install.
