If anyone can help with a little insight it would be great. This is the problem i get into my car this morning and let it idle for awhile then i start driving off its fine for a while then it started sounding like it was drowning a bit and lacking mad power. Thought it might be the spark plug wires because it happened before but this time got brand new oem put them on and it stills runs like shit. Any suggestions? Checked the ecu and it only threw 4 short red and 4 long red. Thanks in advance. I have a 91 se-r.

You sure it was a "44" beign thrown? I don't have my FSM here at work, but the websites I'm looking at don't show that as a code.

Also, are you positive you put the wires on correctly?

plugs wired go on as 1 cyl on bottom left 2 at bottom right and 3 at top left and 4 at top right. Thats correct isnt it? let me go check that code again i think it might have been 55 not 44.

if its 5 5 i THINK thats the OK code...i dont have a fsm on hand so i cant tell for sure

They dont show a 4-4 code for your car, but that may not be a complete list. Will the car rev past 3K RPM, because it sounds like an MAF problem or maybe a leak in the intake.

A quick search on the 'net shows that Nissan has used the 0404 code in the past to indicate no stored codes. It might be a California car thing.

yeah i can get rev past 3k but it sounds like its straining to get there. check the distributor and rotor and they are clean as a bell. I'm gonna check the plugs when i get home tonight. I think that might be the problem because it feels like im only running on 3 cylinders. I havent reground the maf yet so maybe i'll check that too. thanks for the help guys if you have any more suggestions let me know. thanks

Are you running on only 3 cylinders? Pull the plug wires while she's running and find out. One of your fuel injectors could have went bad. Don't ask me how I know :D My car did the same thing..an o-ring went bad inside the injector.

EDIT: Just found code 4,5 is Injector Leak...could it be?

did you say it chugs all the way up to 3K then it runs allright??? If this is the case Its possible its your MAF (Mass Air FLow)sensor... Mine burned out in my old Sentra. Its just a Rheostat(varies the electrical pulse with amount of air pushed) and it can burn out in places and still work in others.....when it went it felt like I was riding a Harley at certain RPM and ran fine at other.... If all else fails I got mine checked at a *shudder* dealership.
