: Ack 400 bucks for only 2-3 hp gain
y0ureviltwin 05-14-2003, 03:32 AM I was about to spend 400 bucks on a greddy cat-back system then I realized 400 bucks for only about 2-3 hp gain, not even worth it but I do want something that sounds better over stock but wont kill the pocketbook. I think Midas has a cat-back for 200 - 250 with a custom muffler and their own piping but that price was over a year ago for my old DelSol, I got about 150-200 bucks to spend on exhaust so would like any info, oh yeah looked at the pacesetter system it looks decent but the muffler looks bad and the tip UGG yellow and sticks out hella far...
se-riusb14 05-14-2003, 08:00 AM That amount depends on other mods to the engine. I had the SP, S4, HS G5, PRCAI, Highflo cat. No doubt I got more than 2-3 hp out of the Greddy. What a great DEEP rumble. To bad it don't come in a 3 inch for my turbo swap.
98sr20ve 05-14-2003, 09:55 AM If you get a crush bend system you will likely loose power. You get what you pay for. Last I looked the Greedy was nearly 550 for my car. 400 is a fair price.
jon3k 05-14-2003, 10:00 AM On a stock car, it should make more than 2-3 hp. Not to mention modifications down the road will make more power.
I don't know about pacesetter vs. other exhaust, but if its mandrel bent, you might wanna compare the price of some other exhausts vs. just getting the pace setter, and having a muffler shop saw off the stock muffler and getting a different muffler welded on. You can get a nice muffler for about $40 or so, and have a shop do the work for a few bucks. Probably less than you think. Give midas a call.
FastNX 05-14-2003, 11:00 AM hey, dont feel bad, I paid 1000 for my GReddy system :(:(:(
NateSR20 05-14-2003, 11:01 AM The pacesetter is cheap and it works.....cut the tip off if you dont like it. and like someone else said you can always get a different muffler welded on. I got mine for less than 200
Nismo_SR20 05-14-2003, 11:07 AM Take it to a muffler shop and have them make one.

How long ago was this?
se-riusb14 05-14-2003, 04:26 PM $1000 Canadian or US dollars?

If you take it to a muffler shop, make sure they have a mandrel bender. Crush bent is shit and you'll lose power, I know i did with I/H/C, so it wasn't like i didn't have mods. Midas is a bunch of fucking hacks, so yeah you could go there and throw your money away. Or you could get what you pay for and buy a nice pre-fabbed exhaust. Don't go cheapo man you'll regret it.
FastNX 05-14-2003, 08:47 PM 1000usd. I paid 1500 canaidan
this is befor3e i joined the forum, i couldnt find parts for my car so i jumped on the first "deal" i could get.
Shittypart is im selling the car a year later im obviously taking a huge hit when i go to sell the exhaust.
y0ureviltwin 05-15-2003, 01:39 AM Well Midas I think uses a machine to bend the piping and usually carries a muffler to go with, just dont know how loud it would be oh well guess I will call them tommorrow. When it comes to cheapness I am only minor bolt-ons on my car (intake, exhaust, maybe header but waste of money in my opinion) im almost 30 and the import car bug is almost at a end though I am wanting a 350Z but since my muffler is rusting out at 46k I thought to get something better then stock...
Cliffgump 05-15-2003, 02:03 AM Sure a header is a waste of money but a new exhaust is a great investment. Riiiiight. Midas does have a bending machine but they're called reduction bends and they fucking suck. Every midas i've ever seen can't weld to save their life either. Trust me a Midas exhaust will be WORSE than stock. Buy a used pre-fabbed system from another member.
y0ureviltwin 05-15-2003, 02:29 AM Well I am more interested in a muffler more then anything cat back even better but 400 bucks for only a few hp gains is not worth it to me so just trying to find something better sounding and longer lasting then the stock piece of crap i have rusting out not to mention I think my cat is making a hissing sound, and dont they make something that goes from the resonator, I swear I saw a bolt right after the resonator.

JayHass 05-15-2003, 08:23 AM Hey guys just so you know, press bending done right is okay. I agree it's not as good as mandrel but on a budget and NA you will hardly notice a difference if any at all.
Just make sure the shop uses large dies so it just "shapes" the bend more than "crush" it.
In case anyone doubts this my car went 14.1 with OLD style S3 cams, AEBS 4-1 header, CAI, UDP, 2.5" press bent exhaust and that's it. That was on a 2.0 60' and I was on the brakes for the last hundred feet in a bracket race.
Muffler choice has more to do with NA power than crush vs mandrel.
BTW, Jay, in case you're curious - your old exhaust system still lives on up here in Canada, on Louis Rosanova's SE-R :)
