i dont know how else to describe it, someone must know what im talking about. its roughly rectangular or L shaped, with a round hole in it. its attached with 3 little rubber mounts, all of wich have broken, leaving it loose. what the hell is it for???????? please help me? i dont even know how to get it back on?
so, if i remove it, my wheel will just vibrate a little more?? thank you so much for the info.
No, no no. It goes in FRONT of the airbag.
That is the factory nissan "bullet" to accompany the shotgun blast of the airbag in your face.
That way you don't have to see your baby all messed up... well, or anything else EVER for that matter.
JK of course, DONT do that!

I've never seen it but if I saw a plate behind the airbag (on the opposite side to the passenger) I would assume it is there to direct the inflation of the airbag in the right direction.
If it is broken or loose could this mean that an airbag has been deployed?
Note: Be careful working around airbags!!!
i think mubarick is right, a vibration damper is all it could be, it is completly seperate from the airbag, in no way contacting it. it got loose one day, and started clunking around. it has soft rubber mounts allowing it to vibrate and absorb vibration, but 2 of them broke, so it was dangling and rattling.

I would say take it to a dealership, or crack out the fsm and find out. It may just be a dampener, but it may also be there to direct the airbag in deployment. I would rather be safe than sorry. <---Cliche?

omg, it has nothing to do with the airbag, the airbag is self contained, and is removed in one unit. this is behind the air cannister and everything. if you saw it its obvious. i checked my fsm, and it is not mentioned in there.
