: New alternator; Car wont hold a charge

The original alt. seized Sat. night, so I got a new one Sun, now it wont hold a charge...any suggestions??

Alternators don't hold a charge. ;)

Do this w/ a multimeter:

1- measure battery voltage, it should read at least 12v. If not, then it's probably the battery.
2- with all acc. off, have somebody start car while you're measuring battery voltage. Battery voltage shouldn't dip below 10v. If it does, then it's probably the battery.
3- while the car is running (with all acc. off), measure battery voltage. It should read at least 13v. If it does not, then the alternator isn't working.

The alternator was tested and works fine and I out the battery in my moms truck and it charged perfectly..what else could it be

how do i check to see if there is power going to the exciter? if there isnt how do i fix that?
is it on a relay or what.

all fixed. the new alternator i bought wouldnt energize. i put another new one on and it worked.
oh well. thanx for your help
